The vet or anyone in the emergencies thread advise anything to help what’s left of his good eye? You are brave too. Keep up the good work, keep your chin up too. This is a tough situation with your neighbor. Consider aviary netting, maybe it could work, maybe not, but if nothing else maybe set it up across the top of your fence where that rooster comes over, it could be sort of vertically erected maybe?

I really don’t want to hurt that rooster next door, but talking to the neighbor, didn’t help. He’s aware that his roo is visiting on my yard. I have to keep my birds locked up until I can figure out what to do. The sheriff said remove the offending rooster quietly and permanently. Animal control doesn’t do chickens. I don’t know what to do
I love Jaffar too much to watch him get hurt

I wonder if you can catch the Roo in the coop and rehome it?? In the meantime keep Jaffar in a safe location

Beaks and toenails - advice needed.

Ever since I read here that beaks and toenails may sometimes need trimming I have been trying to see if my lot are OK.
I think they are, but any input or advice is most welcome.

Babs seems to have quite short nails - consistent with her status as master-digger. I missed out on her beak so will look at that later.

Bernie seems to have one toenail out at an angle. Is it getting too long? Trimming Bernie’s toenails might require professional assistance so I am hoping they are OK.

You both are assured the kids will know how to handle baby silkies? They’re soooo tiny!

Can you test them or are they too tiny to get any DNA from? From poop?

The kids can look but not touch apparently- they kindergarten kids.

I cannot get DNA testing until their toenails are big enough to trim - about 6 weeks.

If I know which chick was in which egg I can use the egg’s inner membrane to test with. But I am extremely doubtful on that side! It takes some organizing to ensure the correct chick in the correct shell.

The dna gender test can only be done with blood - it would be wonderful to be able to use poop though!!!

So I will hold back three I like and hope they are girls! Watch it will be all Roos this year!

I called my veterinarian and they said that they would see him Monday. (It’s shorter if I just fly him there than drive)

If you all have evidence of that being true I need it so I can convince my parents.

It were me, I would order up some day old pullet chicks say 4 of them and give her. That way you wouldn’t have to deal with Roos.

Yep. Tomatilla wouldn't stop till she hatched chicks.

Sophia - 6 weeks, then I gave her those 4 chicks, and she perked right up!

Josephine Attacks.

She's trying to beat up Agathae for being broody now. She has never acted like this.

Is Aghathae near the bottom of the pecking order? I've heard that can be a problem, they don't have enough "rank" to be deemed worthy of raising chicks, Josephine could be telling her to stop.

The other element to consider is that any chicks she raises will inherit her rank.

What I understand, is if she goes broody you need to take her off the nest twice a day to eat, drink and bathe, & give her time in each session to safely get out of the trance and do those things. (Protected from others if she needs protection.) Some people also tempt them with some food and water near them on the nest.

I don't have personal experience with any of this. Not happened here yet.
