Alas it isn’t to be…..

She belongs to the lady 3 houses up, she has 2 little boys. And 3 other chickens 1 is a very naughty polish Roo, and another polish hen, and another little bantam hen.

She had them outside yesterday and she went to get lunch for her little boys and when she went back out the hen was gone! She expected the hen got caught by a fox. She was so eggcited when she learnt I had the hen I thought she might cry.

My BIL told me he thought he heard a rooster crowing on that property yesterday when he went for a walk. So I went there.

So the lady her little 5 yr old and I went back over to my place to get the hen. And no wonder that hen is so quiet, the little boy walked up and picked up the hen and carried her off hahaha so sweet

I have a feeling Lakshmi might be a bit hard for a 5 & 3 yr old, but Lucky may be easy. Seems the boys have been calling her all sorts of names.

In the end I am thrilled it all turned out well.

Awe, I’m so sorry. And now I owe SHRA tax, darn. I’m glad that she is loved for by the little boy though.

Has anyone heard from @GregnLety recently? He hasn't been here in a while so I was a bit worried. Lety is the one who taught me that I could eat the artemesia and the chickens didn't need to get the entire crop!

I started an oil pastel drawing. This is the final drawing before I start adding color. As of now, I have already added the color and am nearly finished.

He's up on the North Sea on an oil platform working. He'll be back soon.

Last winter he was in Fort St John about 2.5hrs from my camp - I would have driven down to say 'hi' but I was leery of driving on the Ice Roads that way, I didn't want to get lost, there is no cell reception out in those places, and being a woman driving alone out there is NOT a safe thing to do - in my opinion.... I tried to sucker one of the guys into driving over there with me but they were 'heck no - we know you you'll be talking all night!'

I haven't been on here for a while, the rain has been falling heavily for the past few days, I think it's gone now, bit I can guarantee there will be fog tommorow. Here are some tax pics.

Was heading out to the coop this morning to open late when I saw the fox out un the alfalfa field. Quietly set food down, slipped back into the house for the 22 (haven't fired it yet either, practice for later in the day). Slip back out to the deck....no shot. Track it along the fence line (horses in background). It crossed a fence, tree in the way. Move, fox goes over the top into tallish grass. I moved along screened by the peatree hedge and watching the pigeons at the empty camper. 15 min later, spot deer in pasture beyond the place with all the cars. Whole herd bouncing away from area. Probably the fox. Returned rifle to the door and went to let out birds.

Babies (Hetty, Blurr, Focus) demonstrated they know how to use the nupple waterer.

Whoa Nelly! gosh that's sure scary. Makes me even more amazed that 'Lucky' survived here overnight on her adventure!

Mine have separate containers and they bang on the eggshell container when it is empty even though the container next door is full of oyster shell.
They really seem to like eggshells better!

Yup.

They like eating their own creations. They'd love it if you also included the yolk.

I have one pullet I need to watch. She has not broken an egg to eat it (yet), but if she finds one of them that broke for whatever reason, she is ON IT!

Maybe you should just give them what they want?

I can't keep up with just egg shells. I'm nearly out.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know. I’ve never heard of a 20% protein layer feed. That sounds awesome.

I found a 19% layer at TSC. I'm going to give the ladies a bag's worth, see if that helps Pip. It's fortified with BSFL protein, I think. I got a 10 pound bag to see if they like it, and they do. It's a pelleted feed, not crumble, like the Kalmbach that they usually get, so I wanted to check before I got a big bag.
