My original group of Black Copper Marans. There ended up being 4 boys and 2 girls. They are around 9 weeks old here.

You will notice when it appears, you cannot mistake the adult male markings for mossy markings. Also do not panic as the pictures show for green or blue iridescence in the feathering. Male or female, they are such a rich black that when the sunlight hits their feathers light up like gemstones. It is one of my favorite things about black chickens in general.

I love the patches of bright colors as they start to pop up on the boy’s wings there. That copper sure pops nicely with the iridescence.

Mugs, blurry mugs!

We’ve been having wonderful weather here, so the chicks have gotten long afternoon outings in the yard. Five to six hours at the time, usually in a pen with the dog tethered to it to keep them safe.

Most of the big chicks are finishing up their feather coats and are ready to move outside (we’ve just done away with their heat pad), but the wee gray lass will need a couple more weeks to catch up. The biggies will need to be patient, in their increasingly cramped garage quarters.

Oooooh! What is Sweet Peach? She's beautiful! So are the others, but I've bever seen lacing like hers before!

It’s lovely isn’t it! Sort of reminds me of Bert. He has some sort of scalloped colour on his breast feathers.

If that little dark one has a rose comb, you DEFINITELY have a golden wyandotte there. Lighting on that pic lit it up beautifully! The one under your chin next to the blue (grey chick) is going to be white or mostly white, I think. The other 3 golden ones, still not sure on. They're good at hiding their tells.

Yes the sun was going down it was around 6pm so the light is always golden then isn’t it - makes everything lovely
