Cluckie had not been laying for weeks, but she started laying again just two weeks ago. I don't know what else could be killing my chooks. Hawks? Haven't seen them in a while. And don't they take their prey away? Crows are always flying around here. It's a real mystery.

It's possible the heat did her in and the crow came to eat.

Set up a camera. You live in the desert. It could be a coyote, a fox, or something else. I don't think crows will eat chooks.

They do snatch chicks. I've seen a few over my meat chicken run but I've got hawk protection over it (mostly owing to the fact that meaties are so stupid).

An old school game camera will capture most of what goes on.

I really doubt it was a crow. Hawk more likely. And no, they do not always take their prey with them.

After 4? years the run is mostly fenced at last. It has had chicken wire around the bottom three ft from the start, except for the door which had nothing, rendering the rest pointless.

The new dirt i mentioned, there will be another shelf at the bottom of the ramp.

Nice clean dirt and brickwork, and a random board i need to move.
