I have cameras in my coop and run and this morning I saw some interesting behavior that I thought I would share. Our young rooster, Jabber had just mounted Hattie and my alpha hen Patsy came over and knocked him off her. Thinking that was odd I thought I would start the camera recording in case it happened again. Instead I caught Patsy smacking him down. Check out the video below. They come beak to beak, I'm not sure if Jabber is trying to intimidate her but there is a rapid reaction and Patsy is clearly the winner.
How do I watch the videos when they all say they are private?

Pony Sunday.
He's had a little walk and helped me catch a poodle that got out on the road so he is a hero today. We got her safety home between us.
He had his magnesium after his lunch and seems to be in less pain.

Princess him and pusscat enjoyed it outside in the garden today

I'm sorry for Ryka. Somehow even if we know there's a chance they will leave us, it makes it more difficult when we take care of a weak or unwell chook and try to heal it.

I'm wondering about your coop. It seems you built it very recently and it looked really confy on the video you did. Are you sure there is no mean to secure it rather than go with a completely new coop ? At least when you work with the existing you know what the issues are. I'm not sure builders would know how to make a coop secure for chicks and the type of predators you have.
The coop we have was made by rehabbing a very old shed that was falling apart. I took the best half of it and made a wall in the middle of it. It has a dirt floor and many gaps in the old wood siding. I have tried to sure up gaps and the whole thing has a hardware cloth predator skirt made of 1/4 inch hardware cloth as is the run. There is an attic which is difficult to secure but the single biggest issue we have had is from rats/tunneling critters.

My husband and I are currently looking at options. We have a large pole barn on the property. It’s in good shape and we might be able to build out a coop inside of it.

Well got a glance at Mera's nest. Went out to check and discovered her down on the ground doing the broody buk-buk. No babies. What? Check the nest. Blanche is in it. I threw her out. Eggs moved around a little bit, didn't see any external pips, but also didn't have time to check as Mera slid right back in. Sound of eggs knocking into each other was sort of flat (like not hollow like fresh eggs sound). Blanche started protesting, ran back along the roost to eye the nest some more. I "pecked" her several times to protesting squawks and made her move back along the roost. When she went back again, she was eyeing other boxes, so I flipped up the one next door, where her sister had been earlier. Surprisingly Blanche hopped right in, so I dropped the flap. Will check back in a few

As my broody Xzit has taught me, I don’t mess with occupied nest boxes. If a hen has occupied one I let them be. (Unless it’s for their health reasons)
