Don't you dare stop calling silkies feather dusters. Those who own a silkie cannot look at them and think the same thing. They are walking breathing feather dusters. In Branch's case he is a Monkey Man. In 3 to 4 weeks I will start sharing photo's. Photo's of chicks that only a mother could love. There is no nice way to say it but as juveniles they go through a ugly stage. Some so bad that they need a paper bag placed over their heads with eye holes. I love this stage, but then, I love all stages of the silkie's development. In this stage I will get a idea of their adult coloring, but oh they can be hard on the eyes. Feather duster, nope, they will look like they stuck a toe into a light socket. Taunt away, I can take it.
Yes the two here are like that right now.

Esp Clyde 😊 feathers going every which way, and she is getting more comfortable with me, I am hoping they are both pullets they are so adorable.

And they have taken to the ‘replacement chicks’ who are out and about doing all the chickie things they should be doing.

I have given the chicks some thoughts and I think that these chicks were too old to be shoved under the broodies. Well Dorothy at any rate. They were hatched last Monday so almost a week old.

At any rate no more chicks, the broodies can just stay as they are.

I just love Clyde’s hairy legs - they look just like a Clydesdale horse 😊

And
Kelly, she insisted on going back into the nest area in her coop. I'm so confused 😕.
My hens generally always sit for an hour or more when they lay an egg.

Some for hours and then there are the Azurs who pop out an egg and get up and go back to what they were doing.

Sophia sits for hours and hours!

Well, Mera is done. She hopped nests back to the last one. Put her on a roost and took the eggs tonight. Dunno if she'll make it back into a nest tonight, but....I'm off tomorrow, have a bucket, and will have to see. Mood I'm in tonight, she'd get dunked.
Yep

I know what you mean. Frustrating isn’t it. If one more hen goes broody this year I am gonna freak out!

Except Sophia - she would be THE ONLY ONE I would give chicks to again she was as good or better a mama than even the silkies. Who knew she of all my chickens would be a good mama?! I have no idea what she is but she’s a nice hen.

Thanks Kelly, it reached to 7 hours in the end I was to tired to stay up any longer.

The pain is less now. So these tablets are helping 😀
I glad the antibiotics are starting to work.

And not to worry about Princess, mine sit for hrs, one night Tippy was on the nest and I was worried she might be broody - nope she was just laying an egg later in the day.
