Hi everyone,
I thought I should share the initial results of a recent purchase for the hens. A little background… we are having our first heatwave of the season. I knew it was coming, and I don’t want to lose a chicken to the heat, so I bought them an evaporative cooler. We are fortunate that it’s usually dry heat here, in which case, evaporative coolers can be effective. So I got one!

I set the cooler up in the run, as they are not meant for confined spaces. For reference, my weather app says it’s 96°F. I measured 97.2°F in the shade outside my kitchen door, 95.9°F under the walnut tree, 104.7°F in the sun, and…. wait for it…80.4°F in front of the evaporative cooler! Only one chicken is even panting. One of my best chicken purchases ever!
I'm so happy that your cooler works! It's a great asset to have for sure.

@Ponypoor agreed on the neck feathers. Nellie and Twirp have the same thing going.View attachment 3879748View attachment 3879753So does RoseView attachment 3879752
Yes! Exactly! She has an odd colouring and when Rebecca pointed it out I can now see the Creole colouring on Mr LC. I was just calling it spots 😊♥️

Gosh I am so attached to the little farts - doubting I can sell them or rehome them. I guess I will need to have a very warm place for them - just as well I would feel horrible if they went someplace which didn’t have a warm one lace for them, they sure do hate the cold.

Awesome! I heard they work well in drier heat.

I bought one - but it’s been so humid here that it’s mostly useless.

It’s supposed to be hot again this week so maybe it will work better this time around, if it isn’t too humid.

The fan is decent and with the ice bottles added to the water it did make it better, just not as good as I wanted it to be.

I thought maybe today, she might be stopping, but sadly I was wrong 😑

she just doesn’t know when to quit!
I think Dorothy is pretty much done being broody, though she did migrate back to the nest box this evening.

But at least she is out and about on her own. And thankfully Whiskers is fully over her broody stint.

I would be most interested to know the humidity levels when you use it, if you get a chance to check ♥️😊

Time thieves

This is why I never seem to ‘get things done’

Then there is my mum who wants to chit chat while I am trying to do chores, and then thought she would haul a broken branch down from a tree and freak me out. That could cause some damage falling on your head!

Between all these distractions it’s no wonder I never can get stuff done at an early time.
