Poor pups.

I like electric fence, one strand along the top of the fence will stop birds from perching there, dogs from jumping up on the fence, an I bet would give that Roo an awesome jolt when flapping up there to come visit.

How would you ground it if it is at the top of the fence? Won’t zap unless grounded.

That's cute the way you said "honk" -- when our first Silkie cockerel started to "honk" it sounded like a hoarse Trumpeter Swan so we named him "Trumpet" (2011). He was so adorable and friendly but we had to give him up. He wouldn't shut up and we're not zoned for roo's . He was hatched by a homeschool mom who gave him and his sister to us as day-old chicks. His sister "Violet" lived with us till she passed at 11-yrs.

Neighbor has a new wild game rooster. and has come over the fence to see my birds. It’s a very young boy, but he’s gonna be trouble for me. I already warned the neighbor that I would not let his rooster come over and cause trouble for my roosters. and I mean it!!

Watch your own roo's too. It's embarassing when one of our chickens misbehaves in turn. It happens even when we do our best. That's why we put up a block wall when we remodeled our yard to use it as a sound/noise absorption, to keep chickens inside the yard, and keep stray dogs outside.

We lucked out that there are no close neighbors with curious wandering roo's since we're in a no-roo zone. Some rural areas are using electric fences to keep out unwanted visitors
with some degree of success.

*clears throat* I heard you wanted to go on vacation. Well, if you want to go to the airport and get on your plane in time, I suggest you get up right now and leave... right now. What time was your flight? And where are you going? Hawaii. Okay good to know.

There is always a ground wire on the electric fencer end, the ground rod needs to be down a good depth too. If the ground is dry the charge won’t be good, I throw a bucket of water on the ground around the ground (teeheehee), helps get a hood charge going!

One can also use a 2 wire system, a hot wire and just under that a couple inches a ground wire which doesn’t need to be insulated.
