Aw I am so sad to hear this, yes what a jerk.
There are no big stores still in much of Newfoundland so people still have gardens where potatoes cabbage and turnip are grown and put into cold strange, raise ducks and chickens and a steer for meat.
Also fish still gets salted and dried and moose is hunted.
Berries are picked and preserved.
Shopping in town is done for canned goods and baking goods. But if you’re 3 hrs to a big town you don’t do that too often, maybe once a month.
