Hi everybody, writing a short update from an extremely old computer (like, seriously old) but way more comfortable than pecking letters out on an auto-correct-y touch keyboard. That's why I don't use my phone for this. There haven't been any casualties in my flock (except for ones I caused myself with the meat chickens) and the chicks are getting bigger. There are two confirmed cockerels in my group of 11; Arcturus (pretty sure Lav Orp) and Sir (australorp). Aelyn may not be an Aelyn but not sure. The two female australorps are called Etude and Allegro (after piano), the two female Lav Orps are called Lilac and Hyacinth, and then there is the two SLWs, Sasha and Leonora. The last two is a female Australorp, Mira, and Columbia, who you all know hopefully. Her muffs are growing in awesomely
:love
Thanks for the update! Please take care with the smoke out that way - I see it’s bad your way. And hot, be careful!

Everyone roosted together. So happy to see.

I am proud of myself. 6 years ago when me and Rosie started taming Momma Hen my brother and my sister disliked chickens. Sara thought fresh eggs were gross, and was afraid of them. My brother Michael thought they could never be a true pet and if you've saw 1 chicken you have saw them all. Both quickly started calling me and Rosie the crazy chicken ladies. Once when Holly, Daisy and Drummie were still young Sara tried to lay out in the back yard to get some sun. She came in screaming that my chickens were attacking her. No Sara, they are friendly and thought you had treats and were just seeing what you were doing. Over time I have changed both of their minds. Sara finally tried one of my eggs after having them for over 2 years and has never looked back. To top it off she is a health nut, will try to go organic if she can and has not ate a store egg since. My brothers interest was peaked first with the cochins, he thought they were pretty. Then he too started liking Branch and the silkies. Now he has discovered Polish. When he is out doing maintenance on his motorcycle he comes armed with a pocket full of his Conure's food to use as treats. To get it they have to eat it out of his hand. No problem for my flock. He used to say I had too many when I only had 5, now I do not have enough and what is a few more if it means he gets a Polish eventually.

Sara came over Friday to get her weekly supply of 2 dozen eggs. She then came and played with the chicks holding each one. She handed me her phone and asked my opinion. She is researching chicken coops. I asked her what was this all about, she lives in a townhouse style apartment. She wants to be prepared. Her and her boyfriend Austin have been saving for a year now for a down payment on a house. They have plans to buy within 2 years when they find the right place. They are looking for something with a yard, not only for a dog, but, they want their own small flock of chickens. Sara is the resident Crazy Cat Lady and she owns that title with 4 cats. She said she needed a even number of either 2 or 4 so they would not be lonely. She also let slip her plan. When she can she is coming here and picking out her favorite from my flock. She wants either 1 big girl and 1 little girl or 2 of each. Yeah no. Buy your house and build your coop. I will then either raise the chicks for you or show you how to do it yourself since she claims I raise friendly chickens. I also now have 2 years to convince her she needs a Rooster as well. That one may be difficult. She likes my roosters but she is afraid if she had one she would crack a egg with a baby chick inside it. She also does not want fertile eggs. Fertile eggs means she would let a hen sit and raise babies. She took in a stray cat that was pregnant at the time and kept 2 out of the 4 kittens. She said she knew she could not get rid of any chicks that a hen of hers hatched.
Sarah sounds like a really cool lady. I am wishing her and her BF all the best of luck getting onto the housing ladder. They need luck especially in finding the right place to keep their chickens and cat's 🐔 🐔 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛

The prescription drug that my doctor prescribed for me is too strong and made me sick. I’ve been in bed since yesterday evening.
Xzit has finally finished her broody session and is hanging out with the other chickens finally.

And the pile of limbs will either be used as kindling or broken down to be mulch.....unless someone decides to nest inside.
