Those 2 pictures will become special to me. I have a sad update on my boy Bubba. I promised him I would not let him suffer, and he has started to decline again. Yesterday evening he let me hold him and unfortunately the redness is now going up his legs. It is hard to spot due to the leg feathering but it is streaking up, puffy and now there is heat in his legs and the sores on his feet. He was not as active yesterday and today so far he is resting a lot as well. I am going to spoil him, he already got handfed a bunch of sunflower seeds which thankfully he ate some of them instead of trying to give them all to the girls. Later I have a can of tuna for him, he is going to get all his favorite treats. It may not happen tonight, but definitely in the next few days. I am watching him very closely, he will tell me when it is time.
I am so sorry to hear he has declined - but I know you will do right by him. You are a good chicken Hooman ♥️

And I am glad that Randy had some time to learn under him, no matter what you decide with him, it was a good thing for him.

Meat Bird

The seller of the eggs is saying that Aster is a meat bird and therefore could not have possibly come from them................

I'm not getting my money back. I will keep speaking with them but I'm not getting my money back.
What the holy Dinah?!!!

Yep nope… I know meat birds and she is NOT a broiler. They are squat and chunky, fly worse than the silkies!

Time for some ‘media’ attention for them. Comments online are a wonderful thing.

Meat bird :gig

If anything, she is a leghorn, EE mix. Gosh I hope she does lay GREEN eggs then I would show them and tell them they have extremely poor ethics.

Meat bird (snort snort laugh).

I just bought a chick-nik table. My mother in law is picking it up from the duck sanctuary today and she'll bring it over tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is the one I'm getting, I just know mine is orange!

I have seen them here in the feed store, they seem popular.

From many bad experiences I've found too many private breeders either don't admit their mistake, refuse to refund $$$, or ship sub-par or even sick birds. I have only one reputable breeder left that I trust and happens to be local. If you've followed my 13+yrs saga on this FBA thread I shared our multiple mishaps with private well-known breeders -- just didn't choose to list their names!

Hatcheries often get a bad name but honestly they will replace or refund if you meet within their timeframe for reporting legitimate mishaps/errors.
I wish I could have some consolation with poor Shirley/shorty 😢 but alas, Peavey mart is saying so sad too bad.

Poor wee fella he can live the good life here until I need to send him on his way.

Aster the Meatbird Update

They did finally refund my money. It was an interesting conversation but in the end, they did the right thing.

Did they say what the mixup was? I still don’t think she is a meat bird - not when she flies up in that roost.
