Ok friends, especially those with Polish and Polish cross experience. Little Adele or Julio is now officially 6 weeks old. I have noticed in the last week wattles are starting to appear. Now to me and my experience with chicks 5 to 6 weeks old does not mean I panic, it is normal. I took these pictures a few minutes ago. With great difficulty I might add. My little chicken nugget was determined sitting on my hand was not good enough. Tonight she/he was determined to sit on my head. All I have to go by at the moment is the head poof and appearance of wattles. Her tail feathers so far scream pullet.

So friends, what do we think? Are we looking at Adele or are we looking at Julio?

If you think boy, let me have it. I can take it. It has long been determined boy or girl this one is a keeper. I cannot believe I'm saying this but it is pulling the same stunt Branch did when I lost Drummie. It has always been the friendliest. While the silkies have warmed up to me finally, this one. This one is proving to be special.
Gosh, I don’t know to me she’s a she. But what do I know. I can only go by what my chicks where like last year, and the boys had wattles well before 6 weeks. Of course those were polishx barnyard mutts. With Betty’s silkie mama who knows, but she has wattles.

January, so anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks here.

He is handsome. Hmm, he has color in his comb area to go with the wattles. So far Adele has no color in her comb, it is still yellow. I have to remember though Adele is 1/4 silkie so that could delay all cockerel hints. I cannot go by strictly behavior either. Other then being excessively friendly which has proved in the past to be a boy, nothing has screamed cockerel behavior. She still shows food to the silkies first so that could lean towards cockerels. Then again she also allows them to huddle under her like a momma hen.

Nobody seems to appreciate my stale jokes anymore. :old :(
It’s not easy to find new material to be funny. The world is not a fun place lately. Fires, heat, floods, volcanic activity, etc. the list goes on. Maybe I should just crawl under a Rock, but I can’t. They always seem to move away when I try. View attachment 3907989
Hey I laugh at your jokes 😁

Sweet of you to say :). Char is a very rare and unusual breed indeed. She was cuckoo feathered like the Doms but had feathered feet, vulture hocks, tall tail feathers and no comb. She blended well with the Doms in her cuckoo appearance. Her feathered feet made her unusual.

Still in an arm splint/brace and typing left-handed w/ 1 finger which is very annoying :hesince I've clocked at 80 wpm on manual typewriters in my youth :old !!!
I love her feathered feet ♥️

Gosh sorry to hear your arm is still not back up to par. But soon it will be! Meanwhile I can say for all of us we are enjoying your tale.

I have heard of the Breda, but there doesn’t seem to be many around.

For right now, until proven otherwise she shall remain Adele. Adele my little pullet who identifies as a parrot. I am teaching a bad habit that I know at some point I will regret. She is learning to fly up to my arm. Right now it is from short distances but I think with treats to enforce it and as she gets older I can have her do it from the ground. The problem is my arm is no longer her happy place. My shoulder and now my head are becoming a prime spot. I am going to regret this when she lands on my head with poopy feet. It will happen if I keep this up I just know it. Do I care right now, nope.
