Big night for the chicks and a stressful one for me. Everyone is now officially 6 weeks old and it is time. My babies are spending their first night outside like big kids. It has only been dark about 2 hours and I have been outside 3 times already to check on them. They are fine and sleeping. Will I be going out to check several more times tonight? Probably.

Do not blame the kids for the name Juice. My mother named Dirt. Rosie and my dad were thinking along the lines of Dusty. Nope, everyone and their parents had a horse named Dusty. Have you ever heard of a horse named Dirt? No, well now you have. I was not a fan at first, but it grew on me.
I had a horse named Singapore Sling haha I called her Sing. Can’t have a kids horse named after a cocktail!

I cannot tell you how thankful I am mom does not take a active interest in naming the chickens. She likes uncommon names. She is also the reason why we will probably never actively seek out to have a bay horse. Everyone has a bay horse. If you have saw one bay horse you have saw them all is her mentality. That and red is her favorite color. I like some uncommon names as well. I swear the best name I ever heard was given to a grey standardbred mare years ago. This mare won it all for several years at the horse shows in open pacing. Her name, "White Trash". That was just pure genius. She has since been retired and now a broodmare. I bet though her owner wishes she was still showing. Actually I would love to have a good standardbred myself this weekend. Our next horse show, huge paybacks. Open pacing, $2000 with $1,500 going to the winner. Considering it only costs $20.00 to enter that class, someone is going to walk away very happy. There has actually been a lot of added money donated to most of the classes guaranteed. By Wednesday the show bill will be posted. Dad prefers not to show himself. He just enjoys riding. Dirt is ready for Country Pleasure and a few other classes. Mom is going to kick his butt if he does not enter him this upcoming show. Rosie and Russ will not be showing. Age is catching up to him and he is having some soundness issues that have been plaguing him for about 8 months now. It is breaking Rosie's heart but the time to retire Russ is at hand.

Tonight I locked the big ones out and let the chickies be free in the run. Lots of flying and scratching around.

The two pompoms seemed to have the most fun, and disco the bellbottom chick had a ton of fun too.

Bab almost made it onto the "bench" of it but I moved too quickly and she scooted off.
All in all it was 15-20 minutes and they had a blast, Bab is already having to whip her head around to see so she had difficulties getting back in the brooder. I think it's because she was busy pecking the fence so got left behind by the rest and then freaked out.
