It's a little disturbing how much chickens like poultry. I resisted giving them meat on the bone for the longest time. But now their run has its share of bones in it. Little feathered Piranha can strip a drumstick in minutes!

Speaking of which, they're almost sharing run space! View attachment 3913830

The new coop is coming slowly. Hubby's been under the weather, so I've been doing it alone. View attachment 3913831
Some wire is up and the door is nearly complete. It's slow work by myself.

But I'm quite proud of the nest boxes. Entirely too many for 7 hens, but I used old cabinets from a remodel. I left the doors on the backs, so I can just take eggs from the back and not go in. View attachment 3913841View attachment 3913842
I just wish it was done so I could get them moved.
Wow that’s swanky! Love your nest boxes. I think RC did the same thing with hers.

Re: meat - yep they love all meat, mine like roast beef mash potatoes and gravy 😉

Being that the cabinets are for chickens you probably won't want to Liquid Gold treat them. It would just be on the outer doors to keep them clean and moisture/humidity/spills protected anyway.

When we had wood bottom nestboxes we had one Silkie hen that had laying issues and she would scratch so-o-o hard she splintered and tore her toes/toenails to the point she lost a couple toes and toenails ~ blood everywhere. We took measurements of the inside nest bottoms and bought plexiglass cut to those measurements to line the boxes so there wouldn't be any wood scratched up to injure any more chicken feet! The plexiglass made cracked egg and poop cleanup a breeze.

This is "Mini" who suffered laying issues and was so agitated she lost toes/toenails scratching in the nestboxes.

Poor baby, but she sure is beautiful. That’s a great idea with the plexiglass.
