Rosie went back to school yesterday. I was anxious and kept the phone near me all day until she got home. The girl also came back from her 5 day suspension. I was really worried between 1 to 2pm. She is in Rosie's 7th period and her assigned seat is right behind her.
My girl came home all smiles and had a great day. She said as soon as she walked into the school she was almost tackled with hugs from her friends. She is not that far behind in classes as most of the stuff was posted online. I did not make her attempt to do school work until Friday. With the tooth hurting and the lack of sleep she could not concentrate. She got up Friday morning rested and took it upon herself to log into canvas. By noon she had everything that had been posted for that week completed, turned in and most of it already graded. AP Language and AP Pre-cal, nothing was put online but the teachers worked with her one on one to catch her up. She used her hour in gym to do the "paper work" needed for those classes. During break she stopped to talk to and tease her favorite teacher from the past 2 years, Mr. Hunt. He was her physics and forensics teacher. He was horrified to learn she was the one who had been hit with the Stanley and gave her a huge hug. He then showed her one of his front teeth that had been knocked out on the job. She said when 7th period rolled around when she came into the class the girl was already in the room at her seat. She walked to her seat and sat down ignoring her. The girl got up and left the class before the bell rang and did not return. The high school kids get on the bus first and then head to the grade school in the afternoon. Rosie said her bus driver called her up to the front and he and the kids had a chat on the way to the grade school. Her bus driver shared that when he was a teenager he was playing baseball and got hit in the face with a ball that knocked 4 of his teeth out and she was part of a special "club". Then they got to talking about horses as he had noticed our sawdust pile and figured she had horses. He has 3. I asked her if she saw the principal and she said he was nowhere to be seen and she was fine with it.

As mad as I am about the situation and disgusted by the principals actions in the end it is the best place for her. Caring and compassionate teachers who challenge her and push her in ways I cannot. Classes offered that some of the others don't. She also has a core group of supportive friends who have her back which is also important in the high school setting. She thrives at that school. The girl has been charged, and myself and the boys parents have spoken to a lawyer. Now we just wait on the court system to do their job. The lawyer does agree that she needs to be placed in either juvenile detention or be transferred to North Point, our districts high school for "troubled" high school children.

So glad to hear this. So glad she has great teachers and friends to support her.
Did the lawyer say anything about the school and the Principal? I cannot help feeling that the schools board should be made aware of what feels like a bad lapse in their duty of care.

I know there have been some animated discussions in the past about the merit, or not, of feathered leg chickens. I have a question for those of you who are used to them, Marans and Silkie keepers.
My rooster Théo has feathers on his legs and they grow really bad, often ingrown and making weird lumps. Usually it sorts itself out on it's own, but a few days ago I noticed he has an ingrown feather that seems to be turning into an inflamed cyst. There is some red underneath and a small white dot that looks like it could possibly be pus. Drawing salve for a few days did nothing. Any opinion on whether it's a good idea to try to bathe and drain it or if I should I just leave it alone ?

I meant to share some mugs of reprobative chickens yesterday. But we lost our last ex-batt, our dear Nougat, and I didn't feel like posting. I hope you'll forgive me for adding confusion to the days of the week and posting those today. I'm adding a two-fer for good measure.

Chipie (still broody and angry).

Kara and Alba are opposite. Black Vs white, big and fluffy vs skinny with brittle molting feathers. They do share one thing in common, both have bumblefoot again 🙄.

Farewell Nougat. We will miss you.

In Theo’s ingrown feather I have no experience but it definitely looks like pus. Probably it will come out on its own eventually but you will make it easier and faster with some soaking and gentle squeezing.

So sorry about Nougat :hugs but it sounds like you give your birds great care & environment to live in.

Poor Theo, he is a beauty. What breed is he to have feathered feet ~ Marans? We have Silkie hens for over 13 yrs but have not experienced Theo's issue. Maybe cuz Silkie feathers have no barbicels & feel softer :idunno ?

RoyalChick seems to have a good solution for Theo's issue. I hope he gets better. Our birdies are so special ❤️!!!

You are also treating Kara & Alba as well as Theo all at once? What pain & joy we chicken owners share!

We're all God's creatures w/man having dominion/stewardship over His creation. In the new heaven/earth the wolf & lamb will lie together, the lion will eat grass. How about chickens? Will they finally stop being crazy? There won't be any sea's either so where are all the ocean creatures going? Questions, questions, questions?

Any idea when the new Heaven/Earth will come to pass ?
