So sorry about Nougat :hugs but it sounds like you give your birds great care & environment to live in.

Poor Theo, he is a beauty. What breed is he to have feathered feet ~ Marans? We have Silkie hens for over 13 yrs but have not experienced Theo's issue. Maybe cuz Silkie feathers have no barbicels & feel softer :idunno ?

RoyalChick seems to have a good solution for Theo's issue. I hope he gets better. Our birdies are so special ❤️!!!
He is just a mix bantam, not any breed that I am aware of ! My two hens with feathered legs don't have any issue either but his are really strange. Or maybe it's because he is a rooster.

I know there have been some animated discussions in the past about the merit, or not, of feathered leg chickens. I have a question for those of you who are used to them, Marans and Silkie keepers.
My rooster Théo has feathers on his legs and they grow really bad, often ingrown and making weird lumps. Usually it sorts itself out on it's own, but a few days ago I noticed he has an ingrown feather that seems to be turning into an inflamed cyst. There is some red underneath and a small white dot that looks like it could possibly be pus. Drawing salve for a few days did nothing. Any opinion on whether it's a good idea to try to bathe and drain it or if I should I just leave it alone ?

I meant to share some mugs of reprobative chickens yesterday. But we lost our last ex-batt, our dear Nougat, and I didn't feel like posting. I hope you'll forgive me for adding confusion to the days of the week and posting those today. I'm adding a two-fer for good measure.

Chipie (still broody and angry).

Kara and Alba are opposite. Black Vs white, big and fluffy vs skinny with brittle molting feathers. They do share one thing in common, both have bumblefoot again 🙄.

Pretty Morinth and her babies. I'm trying not to give them names until I know which are keepers...but my child has declared one of them "biscuit." I'm not sure who is biscuit but it's a cute name!

Pompoms hiding away. Ric Flair tried to tidbit a seed for a butterbird yesterday, she ignored him and he eventually cracked the shell and ate it himself.

Little sweetie Theo has the bantam size but inherited the leg-feather genetics of a longer-legged feather-footed standard breed which could be producing larger thicker leg feathers than his short legs can handle? Just guessing here? Theo is so handsome & feel so sorry for him ❤️

Getting so big!!! I just love your polish, I'm adding the tolbunt to my wish list. Have you seen candycorn polish? They're also adorable!
It's strange that the Polish chicken is from Netherlands?

If we ever got Polish it would never have much of a poof. Our Silkies from one generation to the next learned from reach other how to trim each other's face feathers!

Our 1st Silkie Violet started the practice 13 yrs ago by putting her face into another chicken's beak to have a couple feathers picked a day. Over the course of days Violet was able to see where she was going. Violet is gone now but the new Silkies surprised us when they continued the tradition & we no longer have to trim Silkie crests ✂️

Sometimes crest cleanup goes a little too far. SUZU later figured out to say "stop" ⚠️

At 1st we thought there was a feather-eating hen in the flock until we saw how Violet went up to another hen to have just her eyebrow plucked! :lau

🤦‍♂️ With all the education establishments available around here, you’d think that there would be more drivers education courses available. People here just cannot drive a car without crashing into something. My fence is thrashed again, up in front of my property line. :rant:mad: A hit and run situation, but my neighbor got the license plate number of the car. I’m waiting for my chain link fence guy to come over. :th
Makes me want to close off the alley permanently (it is my property also!) that would anger many people who use the alley to access their homes.
