I just had a question pop into my head. I always see pics of the lovely bearded ladies, but never gentlemen. Do Roos get the beards and muffs too?
Yes, EE/Americauna boys and girls both have fluffy beards and muffs. I'll try to get a pic of my EE boy tomorrow - it will be later in the day - but I will post!

It is just that more people on here have girls and no or few roos

I am sorry that your arm is just not cooperating. Healing is a complicated thing unfortunately, one we all take for granted.

And you are very correct, just one misstep and down you go! Been there many times myself. The older we get the more worrisome a fall is.

Everyday I worry about what would happen if I had an injury, who who care for the horses and chooks. Mostly the horses, they are the most dangerous to deal with.

Though, after slipping in that chicken poop earlier today I wonder at times 😊

Ooooooo, Awwwwwww, Wow ~ Misty ~ a Blue Ameraucana? or EE w/ inherited Blue Ameraucana genetics? The Ameraucana club would automatically disqualify any purebred Ameraucana as pretty as Misty just for laying any other color egg but BLUE! Any egg color of white, offwhite, tinted, pink, mint, more greenish than blue, etc, other than a definite blue tint is a disqualifier in their SOP.

And they are sticklers about feather colors too! Even if a purebred Ameraucana layed any shades of blue but feather color isn't right the bird still gets disqualified.

From a private breeder I've had a couple Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas that layed light blue eggs (my BYC avatar profile pic) & as dearly as I loved the bird I wish we had just a sweet EE from the feed store! Paid for two pullet Ameraucana juveniles + shipping & one died before a month & the survivor lived only 3 yrs. Would've been cheaper to get 2 EEs from the feed store & who cares if the eggs have more green than blue shells? Guess it matters to the club.:idunno

Anyway there are so many other genetically bred blue layers developed now the feather colors on the new breeds are getting less important since they aren't recognized APA breeds.

And yes, we're not getting younger & every day I face physical limits. My 93-yr-old Auntie passed away this year & she stressed using canes, quad canes, sturdy rolling walkers, bathroom aids, handled stepping stools, avoid rushing, no heavy lifting, watch steps or curbs to avoid what happened to me ~ carrying a package that obstructed my view while rushing! That'll LEARN me!

Pls watch out for that slippery yard poo!

Off topic but I need to share.
I gave a speech at my church today. It was professionally recorded and documented.
The pastor of my church is sending a message to the mayor of our town with compliments on my speech. The subject matter consisted of the homeless issues, the food and clothing bank I am setting up, and the neighborhood watch program that I will be leading. They know me as “The church deacon, chicken man and air 🛩️ wildfire spotting guy”
Anyway, this small town has grabbed me by the heart and didn’t let go!
DH & I knew you were special ~ now don't let it go to your head :lau

Your questions are reasonable:
- Xzit is three years old
-very good health until recently
-she drops in and out of her broody attitude.
- There are no poultry veterinary experts anywhere near me, but my vet who has treated my horse has also been very helpful with my chooks. (2 hours away)
Keep us updated....

Mud, Cocoa, and Nyx. We each named one. Mud is absolutely a boy, Cocoa is suspicious, and Nyx seems pullet.

They get little thumps here and there from the bigs, but aren't chased as much as the other chicks.

Wild girl. She is so gorgeous and has tiny little cheeky poofs.

Hello ladies, have some squash.

The momma hens are keeping their distance today, they do not approve of new birds but they're being respectful of space at least. The chicks seem to have popped amazing colors the past few days.

The chicklets are so cute. My DD got a kick out of seeing the chicken picnic table!

The first one I did peck some areas where eyes and mouth should be. Henny Penny started the process and once the seeds where reached that was it! Everyone went mad pecking away to get to the seeds.

Now they don’t even need me to peck out areas to start, they know to do it themselves.
Ours don't like ANY pumpkin. We even tried a mini-pumpkin w/ a starter hole. Nothing :(
