Such a weird season.
Both the apples and the peaches are ripe.
Normally the peaches are a couple of weeks from now and the apples a few weeks after that!

I picked a small basket - I am not really geared up yet for preserving more than I will eat.

Peel, pit, slice the extra peaches & freezer them in ziploc freezer bags. You'll have peaches all thru winter for peach pie, peach cobbler, or as an ice cream topper, etc.

We harvest way more tomatoes than we can eat or give away. So I peel, seed, and slice the extra tomatoes and freezer bag them and use the chunks all thru winter to add to spaghetti sauce, tomato soup, make salsa, use as extra pizza topping, etc.

When the newest Silkie chicks were indoors the outside birds watched them thru the sliding door. The glass got so dirty from them pecking at each other at the glass it got so cloudy!

Ok, so no birthday chicks for me. Poppet who I had decided to leave alone as I had been fighting to break her to no avail. This morning she woke up and a light switched and she is broody no more. 4 weeks of angry broody bat. To be honest I am happy she broke on her own. I was starting to get worried as she lost some weight in the last week, noticeable weight. Raven, she is doing good on her 3 eggs. I could candle them now but I am going to wait another week. They are dark so I need them to be at least 14 days in to tell something.

I got my Adele pictures earlier. No crowing yet but I do feel it is time to start calling Adele, Julio. His poof is starting to go a little wild. Those wattles, the general stance adopted in the last few days. Also, that tail, it is looking less pullet like and more cockerel like by the day. It makes perfect sense. I have never had a chick get this attached to me or me it and it not be a boy.

I present to you all, Julio...

Rosie also now knows and is thrilled. She was out when I was taking pictures and she noticed the changes. She squealed when she spotted the change in the tail. She has her Bert brother.

Ours don't like ANY pumpkin. We even tried a mini-pumpkin w/ a starter hole. Nothing :(
The first time I gave a pumpkin, I partially cooked it (so it was firm, but not hard), cut it in half, and mixed the innards & flesh (mashed a bit with a fork) and some scratch grain. They LOVED it. Ever since, I just partially cook it ( in an oven, whole), then depending on size, cut it in half, 3rds, or quarters, and put it out. They pick it clean!

We got the run frame put together...a totally NON-predator proof tubular metal frame thing from Amazon. But soooo much faster and cheaper than building one from scratch. Taking a break now.
You know - you can use it temporarily for their run, and then in the future slowly build a predator proof run - and use that as an extension to that run. so, for the future - they have a very safe run for when you are at work or off running errands, or away for a weekend and a neighbor is letting them out and locking them up - but for when you are home...can access the extended area. Again, for the future - so it will still be a valuable investment - helps in the short run for needed run space now, and in the long run for extra 'fun' space.

Yes of course. Every year I stock the freezer with apple and peaches for using through the year.
But I have a very busy week planned this week and didn't expect to be dealing with fruit for another 3 weeks!
