I am thrilled for Rosie 😊♥️

But sad as I really wanted an Adele for you.
Do not be sad for me. My special roosters come into my life when I need them most and they choose me. Drumstick early on chose me. Branch was working on me before I lost Drumstick. In those first few weeks after his passing Branch amped it up and let me know I was his person and showed what a special little man he would become. Julio, he was already working on me before Branch passed. At 2 weeks I suspected boy for no other reason then because of how loving towards me he was. I fooled myself into thinking girl, I know better, I get close to a chicken it is a boy. I loose Branch and who steps up and demands even more to be held, and trust me completely, Julio. I loose Bubba not long after, Julio steps it up to another level and starts burying himself into my arms or laying flat out in my lap. Rosie and Michael can fight over him all they want. Julio is MY boy.

Thank you 1000x over for slipping 2 Betty eggs in. I have you to thank for him.

We have them but I don't think we got any.
No we didn't. The trees are to close together and don't have any more room to grow new roots. I wish I could of been here when they planted the trees since we have like 9 trees in a tiny backyard they are so crowded that they might not give any more.

Such a weird season.
Both the apples and the peaches are ripe.
Normally the peaches are a couple of weeks from now and the apples a few weeks after that!

I picked a small basket - I am not really geared up yet for preserving more than I will eat.

I have orchard envy. We intend to plant apple, peach and pear trees on part of an acre, along with native elderberry bushes and hazelnut trees. Possibly native mulberry too. I expect I'll lose a lot to deer though. We actually have someone from conservation coming Wednesday to discuss wildlife habitat and planting on our little 4 acres.
I got my Adele pictures earlier. No crowing yet but I do feel it is time to start calling Adele, Julio. His poof is starting to go a little wild. Those wattles, the general stance adopted in the last few days. Also, that tail, it is looking less pullet like and more cockerel like by the day. It makes perfect sense. I have never had a chick get this attached to me or me it and it not be a boy.

I present to you all, Julio...

Rosie also now knows and is thrilled. She was out when I was taking pictures and she noticed the changes. She squealed when she spotted the change in the tail. She has her Bert brother.
Greetings Julio! He's a fine looking fella.
You know - you can use it temporarily for their run, and then in the future slowly build a predator proof run - and use that as an extension to that run. so, for the future - they have a very safe run for when you are at work or off running errands, or away for a weekend and a neighbor is letting them out and locking them up - but for when you are home...can access the extended area. Again, for the future - so it will still be a valuable investment - helps in the short run for needed run space now, and in the long run for extra 'fun' space.
That is actually the plan. We'd like a more secure place for when we're away.
Mera lays eggs like that. She has gone broody every year, takes a break when moulting, and has grown in new feathers. She simply lays longish, skinny eggs.
Glad to hear that! Now if only she'd moult!

Still jealous. Can you cut a couple? Give the rest a chance?

The first time I gave a pumpkin, I partially cooked it (so it was firm, but not hard), cut it in half, and mixed the innards & flesh (mashed a bit with a fork) and some scratch grain. They LOVED it. Ever since, I just partially cook it ( in an oven, whole), then depending on size, cut it in half, 3rds, or quarters, and put it out. They pick it clean!

i might try it again ~ but honestly at the price of pumpkins here I might just stick w/ sweet potatoes which the flock had today & loved it!

I’ve been planning my bucket list trip to Nova Scotia, but I’m also studying the economy and prices. I was planning on going there next September 2nd but I have many other obligations to meet before I can leave. Personal preference must give way to travel expenditures, housing, recreational activities and other expenses. This is why I’m up so late.
Tax
My concern for Xzit is a factor also. IMG_4667.jpeg

I'm so pleased Julio has won you over, he sounds adorable 😍

Update on princess

This morning, spoke too my supplier.
They suggested a mix of foods the brand name is Garvo, it's got everything in veg seed shrimps just too name a few of the ingredients. Firstly i read up on people's reviews and it's apparently helpful too many birds by improving their feathers etc.
