Clyde is black with a silver grizzled ‘mane’ of neck feathers, and is a silly little man. He is getting large.

Georgie is still partridge (is that what you call it). S/he is a tiny wee thing. And friendly as anything still.

Look at Clyde's wings, I see some silver starting there as well. It is slow coming in but I wonder with another juvenile molt or two if the silver will become more pronounced. He could end up looking like his daddy Teddy. Georgie, oh Georgie girl is pretty. 2 of mine look like her without the solid black head.

Oh yes frizzle - that is a type of feather. In order to show frizzle feathers the bird needs to have a copy of the frizzle gene. It is dominant, so one will have a 50% chance of getting a frizzle when you cross a frizzle on a normal feathered bird.

BUT - 2 frizzle must never be crossed together as the chance of getting a bird with a double set of frizzle genes is bad news. The bird will have feathers that constantly break and other serious health issues.

Betty is a frizzle - her mama is Curly (frizzle silkie) and her dada is Mr P (regular feathered).

If I had one thing to nitpick about Julio, it would be that he is not a frizzle like his Momma and Grandma. I'm not going to though, it is better for him that he is normal feathered. It will serve him well this winter if we get another cold one.
Look at him, I see it now. This little guy is taking after his daddy/grandpa Mr. P.

His legs, those bright yellow legs at hatch that we both could not figure where they came from? Nope grey now. I hope he grows such a pretty lush and long tail that Mr. P has when he is not molting.

Hubby thinks he'll stay muddy looking but I believe someone here mentioned him getting a red head and shoulders.

I will give you Ezzie as a example. Ezzie was a partridge. You will notice his color was the richest on his shoulders and back.

I believe the other chick that is more red in color will end up looking very similar to Ezzie as a adult. The one you are questioning I believe the body and base color will be what he is showing now. The shoulder wing area will will be richer and more vibrant. It may be red, probably will be red but it could also be a rich brown. He is a cutie.

Yes, double frizzle matings are deadly. Only one mate can be a frizzle.

Your Georgie is definitely a gorgeous Moorhead Partridge ~ that's where the body is gold and the head, legs, & tail are deep black ~ probably the most striking partridge Silkie bred so far!

Clyde is such a sweetie & seems to be all Black Silkie unless you see any goldish speckled wing tips? (Any gold/speckled neck/wing feathers are classified "Dark" Partridge). Otherwise the gray/silver undercoat feathers you see under his black feathers is normal for a black Silkie.

Blue Silkie, Moorhead Partridge, Dark Partridge

Regular Gold/Blue Partridge

Silver Partridge & Buff/Blue Partridge

Black Silkie ~ gray undercoat feathers

Now if only I remember to prune my tree this coming year I forgot to this past season so they are all wild!

Looks like one of my pullets is laying - I have no idea who laid that one really dark olive green egg upper right corner. Unusual colour.

I've never dealt w/Silkie mixes but it looks like @Ponypoor & @RebeccaBoyd have answered from their experiences.

I just know not to mix two frizzles! Not an issue here I don’t do much hatchings of my own - and won’t any more too hard with Roos.

I was just going to ask about the grey legs! Betty did the same thing, she went from light skinned to black skinned now. How odd?!

Oh he is a darling but I wish he had fuzzy legs

I have a normal run for daytime, they have a very secure small run and the coops are both predator proofed. They get this bigger run when I'm home, which is most of the time!
We still haven't done the brooder yet, I was going to see if my dad could help me cut the screws tomorrow. They no longer need it but it would be nice to have with the door propped open as another space for them to use. I don't think it'll fit through the run door unfortunately or I would take it out and put more logs in there for now.View attachment 3929801

Miss pretty bird. One of the butterbirds likes to roost with her, but the other older chicks are standoffish. Except Ric Flair, he is in love. I really hope he turns into a gentleroo, my ladies deserve a good man who dances and gives them treats.

Mud the spud and Nyx. She is a true goth chicken, now I have three (4 if you count Barred Bab) blackbirds and that makes me very happy.

I set up a food and water station on the bedding tote to make sure every group has their own food and water.
I still think I'll be keeping one butterbird, who will be named Butterbird. I did catch all three yesterday to look over, couldn't tell which one was attacked. Thank goodness.

Everyone is growing up I guess no more babies this year - getting closer to winter not looking forward to it.

I wish I had pears.

Mine are Asian pears so they are round and this variety has a red cast to it’s skin. This will be the first time I have been able to get them before the insects ate them.
