Noticed your birds are not only under a shady bush but near your brick wall too. Our birds like to stay under the Pomegranate trees at our backyard block wall too. They know the safest places to relax.

So cute. And I still can't get over how exotic it sounds to me to have a pomegranate tree!

Good girl, Twister! Way to educate the idiot out!
Yep he is a little turnip! And he is still heck bent on killing poor Rosario!

Last night I had Rosario out with Mr P and some of his ladies. Mr P put the run on him several times, we will need to do something with him. And Shorty.

I am going to talk with my farrier and see if her hubby can process them for me. Shorty is HUGE but still needs to fill out, might be 6 more weeks for that.

You have! My baby is well documented. View attachment 3941847View attachment 3941848

It's hard to get good pics of her, but this one shows her short-longness. LOL

As for the lack of whiskers...good genes. :) Truthfully, I'm not hairy either...yet. Knock wood.

Maybe that's why she's skipping days now? Or maybe it's that time of year? I hope maybe she'll finally moult! :fl

Poor Pear is a mass of pinfeathers. Cumulo doesn't seem to be moulting yet.

(FYI TOMTE when we get off topic and chat about anything other than chickens we must pay a tax - photos of our chooks 🥰, I look forward to seeing more of your beauties 😊)
THE TAX! I FORGOT THE TAX! I was so caught up in my dog talk 😆

Belated tax time to make up for it!

Breakfast foraging done, time for a quick rest. I love how Gytha and Magrat are almost always together. Gytha seems pretty protective of her undersized sister 🥰

Same here with silkies. But no one wants to pay the prices - they want to get them free or for ‘$5’ - we don’t have a huge market for anything here.

If Clyde becomes a menace and I need to rehome him I will likely just have him humanely euthanized. People definitely don’t want grown Roos.

The dark seamy side of having poultry- what to do with Roos.
I know it isn't for everyone, but my solution is freezer camp. It provides us with fresh, humanely raised meat - organically fed, and they had a really good life until the humane processing. I only recently sold some boys at auction due to me having health issues and not really able to manage them (the boys) in a way that was safe for the pullets until they were big enough to make it worth processing them.

That said - I just got my nails done and the guy asked me if I had a farm (skin was stained) I stated I had a lot of chickens and he asked if I sold roosters. (He is Vietnamese and used to have a farm there - rooster meat is common -they like it because it is leaner than hens). There used to be a large farm operation the next town over that supplied live roosters, lots of eggs (chicken, duck, some goose) to customers directly - but he died suddenly of a heart attack in his late 50s and his son ran the business into the ground in less than a year. Many South American and Asian cultures eat poultry and goat.

Sadly since I took the 'extra' roosters to the auction, I have none even close to processing. However, Georgie had 8 chicks and 4 (?maybe 5 - I'm wondering about the chipmunk chick) cockerels. I will keep one - the rest would be processed by me when they are 5-6 months old. This gentleman asked me to call him when they are 'of age' - he would like one to process himself (I inquired about how he did it to be sure it was as humane as possible).

For tax - I finally have a Thirsty Thursday pic:

It’s not good to be unevenly yolked!
Double yolks should hopefully be the same size.
I learned that in bible school :old :D
🤦‍♂️ okay I have some bad jokes, so what.
What do you expect from a guy who has his head in the clouds and his feet on the ground. Yeah, that’s stretching it a bit!
