@Marie2020 is Princess a specific breed of chicken? She's so beautiful.
Today we got up late, and Ric Flair let me gently stroke the very outside of his wing. He saw me giving Babs wings a stroke and decided it must be alright.
Samara is 100% done with the babies, she's now chasing them off like the other hens. Morinth is just like "excuse me?! These are your babies too!"
Trickster is learning to call his girls over, the big hens respond and he gets very confused.

Yes they can be really noisy! And expensive to boot. A cockatiel may fit the bill though!
I do love cockatiels & altho slightly less noisy they still can annoy other apartment dwellers. We are separate family properties around here & still have one neighbor annoyed at hearing a cockatiel shrieking.

We've had parrots, parrolets, budgies, smaller parakeets, & canaries. All make noise but the smaller species are easier to care for & their noise doesn't carry as far. Cockatiels on up to large parrots stress easily if left alone all day & pluck themselves when locked up & left alone.

When we had English budgies they spent time on their open jungle gyms but their cage was left open to get to their food/water. At one point we had a combination gym/cage so they had ample room to use their wings flying & toys for playing while we were gone. Small cages, even for parakeets, depresses them.

Really didn't mean to give a Lesson 101 on parrot species but it's like chickens ~ good to know them well before getting them ❤️

First of the big girls noticeably molting

Ruca has decided she should be allowed outside. She is working on a big shed, which is why she is an odd grey.

How many species can we fit together? Six critters in one pic!

Princess is still moulting. I was so sad seeing all her beautiful tail feathers had come out.

I'll take a photo of her later. She has beautiful white feathers coming through but I hope she stops moulting soon it's getting chillier here

My hens always moulted right when it started getting colder weather.

Waiting for the last tail feather to fall off is both sad & hilarious!

I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I don't know her breed. She never been a big layer of eggs. I'm the beginning she laid about 4 double yokes but soon stopped laying and the odd time she did she would hide her eggs. She's a proper little madam 🤣

She was always picked on by the others but teamed up well with Tina at the end until Tina left us.

Pony Sunday

Yesterday afternoon around 4:30 the chickens were all huddled in the top corner of the run and yard under the Jack Pine, all growling and doing their ‘quiet warning’ call.

My uncle and I couldn’t see anything in the sky so we were unsure what was going on. While walking back to the barn chatting I happened to see this great big lovely fly to the back of the barn.

I knew it had landed back there so I told my uncle ‘quick follow me and shhhhh be quiet!’ We went through the barn and looked out the back door and found this beauty roosting on the fence.

I am very leery about any type of water bird hanging around here so I was glad when it flew off. It spent a while preening and then flew off.

Crane? I think Heron.

What a treat! Gorgeous ~ both the bird & the scenery!
