My mom got to hear Trickster crow today, she says he forgot a syllable. I said he started off just screaming and has been adding onto it as he grows.
Then we looked up Ayam Ketawas, laughing chickens. They sound amazing. But I think my neighbors would need a warning if I got one!
Ketawas flabbergasted us the first time we heard them. So many interesting birds in this world!

Greetings all. I have good news and bad news today.
Good news first:View attachment 3947521That brown egg is Sheba's! She laid in the nest for the first time since we moved them! Yay!

Bad news is also Sheba. Maybe she's finally moulting, but she just always looks so bad. Today I caught Meanie pecking at her wings today. We keep putting blu-kote on her, but it wears off so fast. Do you think she'll ever get feathers again? She was such a beautiful chicken before those roosters did this to her...View attachment 3947524View attachment 3947525View attachment 3947526
Like @Ponypoor said: I would get a chicken saddle to help protect her. They make ones with flaps that go over the wing 'elbows' to protect them. If she has a chance to regrow feathers during this year's molt - and then you use a chicken saddle, she should stay relatively well plumed for the next year. The trick is to get her moulted out in peace this fall - a chicken saddle with pin feathers would probably not be very comfortable.
Now that is what I imagine a chicken turkey hybrid would sound like. Absolutely stupid but absolutely amazing.
I thought it sounded like a cross between a rooster crowing and a horse neighing!

SLW? She's got some kind of throwback genetics to give her a different unique patterning. Her offspring can start a whole new SLW variety ~ showering rather than lacing. She is beautiful!
Her sister Gytha (also SLW) finally has some lacing coming in especially on her chest so I think Magrat is just behind on that, too. I think Magrat might stay darker overall though but only time will tell! They're only 14 weeks old, I think it will still be a while before their adult patterning really shows

She will regrow the feathers as long as the roosters stop riding her so much.

Have to say, I gave up worrying about what my horses, and chooks eat. They both will eat the paint off my truck if given the chance.

They both have stolen my bagels with various toppings. The chooks took my four huge beef steak tomato plants down to the stalk, and have eaten the red and green berries of nightshade.

Tonight Reenie my old mare got loose and ate the chooks textured layer ration out. Of their feed tub! I am sure it also had some poop in it .

:sick

They get table scraps sometimes and I know it has onions and garlic in it They love roast chicken, and any meat actually, and fish.

The only thing they will not eat is broccoli! They run for the hills from it hahaha! Crazy birds!
Oh dear! Linking an article because I learned recently that chicken feed can really hurt horses, though I'm not expecting she will have a problem, it may be good to know what it would look like if she does. Horse ate chicken feed

It will take a while. Hyacinth and Violet are a February hatch, so started laying in July, I think. The lacing started looking good about the same time, but I still see development in their feathers.

That is hysterical. 😆

Just keep spraying on the blu-kote.

This is what I have to do with Mr P.

You can also try a hen apron/saddle. @lightm has a really awesome one she used on one of her chooks, it even had guards for the wings.
I guess we'll have to resort to the saddle. The poor thing. Her wings seem to get the worst of it.

We haven't had a rooster since December! But she didn't moult last year at all. I keep praying she does this year.
