Those aren't poplars. They're quaking aspen...like the ones making a jungle in my yard...View attachment 3954578Front just right of center. Wind is blowing HARD....out of the North....frost predicted tonight... amazing what the altitude difference does

Ah, yes Aspen, belongs to the Poplar family. I know they can grow stands of the tree from a single parent tree. In this case likley the suckers I have here are also Aspen, can’t kill the rotten things as the root system will just grow another in its place.

Yep the leaves rattle in the breeze which I do enjoy 😊♥️

Eenie has bumblefoot. :( It's mild...but clearly there. None of my hens really let you catch them. So treating this will be a challenge. I will have to so some research on this.
There are good bumblefoot articles on BYC, Youtube videos, etc. We had a couple hens that got bumblefoot every year from perching/snoozing on our rough paver stone garden bed borders & on the cedarwood border of their sandbox. Because the hens have to be treated daily at home w/warm Epsom salt footsoaks the hens eventually came to enjoy their treatments. However, enlisting a 2nd person to assist w/ treatments is very helpful. Our hens enjoyed foot soaks so much we just used an old shallow cook pan for the soaks rather than the 5-gal buckets some people use. Our hens were so relaxed they'd sit their tush on the edge of the pan while soaking.

Pitch black outside and it’s only 7:35 PST crazy. I’m glad they put themselves to bed, I don’t have any energy to chase them down tonight
Yes I hear you, it doesn’t get light now until 06:30am and dark by 8:00pm, winter is on the way.

Have to say though the past three weeks weather has been lovely! Hardly any rain and really nice mid 20s (high 70s in Fahrenheit), and sunny.

Hey all. I'm never catching up.

Meanie is now regularly laying on the darn floor. As head hen she's failing miserably in teaching the Red Squad good laying manners. I added some depth to their boxes today, maybe that'll help. Honestly, 4 boxes for 3 laying hens and Eenie is the only one polite enough to use one.

Sheba has a saddle, finally. The simplest one I could find that covers her wings. Hopefully having a potholder on her back will keep her from getting plucked!

Prayers to all having a rough time. I miss my chicken tenders of FBA. Life has just been so busy...again!
None of mine can be picked up during the day. But at night you can take them off the roost with minimal fuss.
Get a headlamp with a red light setting.
Best chicken equipment I ever got.

I can’t keep them off me during the day. They fight over who gets to snuggle with daddy. I have to intentionally separate myself from them because I don’t want to show favoritism to any one bird.

Please help. Emergency chicken choking and stool in the vomit. Chest swelled out bad.

My girl won't make it till morning.now she's gurgling.
Oh, no, poor baby! I have lost a bird like that and on a Sunday when my vet is not available on Sundays! Vomit or fluid coming up can choke the air passage/trachea. I was helpless!
