I am going to see if I can find that trap! I have zero problem with killing wild mice and rats, it is just the slow deaths that I will not tolerate.
We got this small one on Amazon but I'm sure they are elsewhere ~ we followed instructions exactly & it works. DH experimented w/bread, grapes, cherry tomatoes, seeds, lunch jerky ~ the best bait was fruit or small cherry tomatoes.

One reason we stopped the snap traps is that it doesn't always work fast ~ the trapped rodent can suffer a while before dying or just get a leg trapped & drag away w/the trap still attached. Lizards don't get killed either ~ we love our garden lizards s0 no snap traps for us.

The "humane" live catch trap allows us to plunge the cage w/the live captured rodent into a water bucket for a fast very quick end. Keep the cage closed until absolutely certain the critter is passed.

At least a mile away. They can travel a bit
according to this, , it says up to 2 miles....but it also states 'for mice AND rats', and I believe rats tend to travel farther. That said...if you train your chickens to hone their inner velociraptor - then they won't come back because it will not be 'an inviting place':idunno

I just had to save a poor little mouse from a glue trap my dad set up. It makes me so mad that he uses them. they suffer so much. I am going to release him way down in my woods so he hopefully doesn't make it back to anyone's house

I am letting him snack on some bird seed before I let him go as he is shaking so much
Note: The article emphasizes they travel that distance if they know they can find food and shelter.

Not sure drowning is such a quick death.
I put my snap traps in boxes so they cannot approach them from the side and it will always break the neck. It also prevents cat paws and chicken feet from being in danger.
