That makes sense. She is molting now. If you look closer the older white feathers are kind of yellow.

She is more narrow than I remember an Orpington pullet being and boy she can fly. Éowyn surprised her and she flew way up into the magnolia tree today.

I continue to wonder what kind of chicken she is.

Makes me wonder if she's one of the splash leghorn variants. PITA and Blanche are .... and called white sapphires.

To me Aster has a longer tail and holds it up high. Hattie has a stubby tail that is held pretty flat.

I 100% agree - Aster has a much longer tail and it is held at a higher angle. Also, Aster seems a bit 'light' build wise in the derriere for an Orp. I have a couple of orpingtons (all Buff), and all 'enhanced' (read: production/hatchery stock, not show/up to APA standards kind) ones, though lighter weight/build than the standards - all have a fluffier/broader bottom than Aster. If she is an orp cross...then she got the tail from what her other parent was......or no orp at all in her. Though, clearly, parent stock is a breed with white skin, not yellow. Most white skin breeds are Continental...as most yellow skin breeds are American. (Not all, by any means, in either department - but seems Europeans preferred white skin on a carcass, Americans preferred yellow skin on a carcass....and breeding was done accordingly, per what I have read....but ignore this on newer American breeds...this is for older dual purpose breeds or meat breeds prior to roughly WWII and the rise/take-over of/by the Cornish Rock-X for meat birds. Back when most families had chickens as dual purpose.)

I think my pusscat is really pleased she's here the dog drifting from us must be upsetting him. I can tell he's worried. This is a comfort for him. He's sleeping with my dog every night now. View attachment 3962215

That is so sweet . I've heard many a story of how intuitive pets can be w/each other. An executive secretary I worked w/ yrs ago had a blind dog & her 2 Siamese cats would guide him thru the house by walking each one on either side of him. I almost cried when she shared the story. Now that would be a video for posterity if cell cameras existed then!

So I had a surprise pop out from under our building this morning. My neighbors calico cat was there, with 6, yes you heard me right 6 new kittens. They are tiny but look to be around 4 1/2 to 5 weeks old. George and his gang were not amused, at all. George acted like a true rooster for one of the first times and escorted Momma around the house with the kittens following. The silkies were ganging up on the kittens and herding them to follow Momma. No cat, chicken or kitten was harmed I promise. I snapped a few pictures while they were doing this.

Once Momma and babies were around the corner everyone was happy again. The chicks have taken over this corner of the yard. The area behind the coop and under the building and in front of the coop is their playground. I'm happy with this as if something scares them they dart under the building for cover. They also have a security guard.

CeeCee is let out now every morning when the chickens are turned loose. The majority of the time she is camped out on the sawdust sunbathing. She comes back inside when I put everyone up at night. It has cooled down some and CeeCee loves this time of year so she is wanting to be outside.

Animals are and always have been amazing to me.

Pusscat, slept with the dog at certain times but would chose other areas of the room too but these past couple of months he's there for him and gets up close.

Amori is still confused and doesn't understand what's happening, she sometimes growls when the dog is near her and the first few times pusscat was ready to pounce but now he just puts himself between them. Like he's on guard but not provoking.

I don't know why I am amazed by his intuitiveness because I know this lad is intelligent.

I am leaning towards some sort of leghorn variety, but that doesn’t mean she cannot be from some hybrid cross to creat a splash Orp.

I didn’t have my Azur at 14 weeks but at 20 weeks they were a similar build.

My buff Orps are rounder, Laverne the lavender Orp is slimmer at the moment.
