It saddens me the way we ‘improve’ our animals.

Hopefully you can find a breeder of them, who does breed them but not the new and improved lines, they are gorgeous I love their colour.

Finding a private breeder that has lines back to the Buckeye creator Nettie Metcalf's lines would be ideal. To get unspoiled heritage breeds one has to find private breeders. I do love small or no-comb chicken breeds (shoot! I love all chickens!).

I think I can. But one I only see a part of.

Flopsy update

I don’t think she has anything broken, maybe dislocated hip? Hard to tell. At any rate she kicked up such a fuss in her crate when I let everybody outside I had to let her out too. But I kept her in the Summer House with a few of the old ladies. She quietly picked through the sand in the sand box after that.

I didn’t give her any Tylenol tonight, as I don’t think she is in too much pain.

She is able to scratch her face with her ‘sore’ leg, if she had a fracture she would not likely be able to do that.

Without a definitive x-ray it’s hard to say what the issue is. And even with an x-ray the likely treatment would be ‘stall rest’. So she stays in the crate for the foreseeable future, unless I am around to monitor her in the Summer House.

Sheesh these chickens are giving me grey hair!

Oh and tonight Georgie showed me how good she is at hopping up onto the ledge in the Summer House - so I let her and Clyde snooze up there, they are both tucked into the little boxed in area snuggled up together.
