Something to keep in mind: originally bred for the cock fights.

Could be great, could be terrible. (But that holds true for ANY rooster). Also, make sure you read (repeatedly) @Shadrach article Understanding Your Rooster. Pay particular attention to how NOT to handle the ladies around the roo.
what I have seen/heard is that they do fine as long as they are in single rooster flocks. I have done a decent bit of research on them as I am slightly obsessed with them

Adding a roo tends to work differently from adding a hen to a group of hens. Will there be a fight? Maybe....especially if the ladies are over a year old and he takes one look and tries to mate. It is equally possible they will circle around, eyeing each other and decide he's perfect.
Versace tried to chase the smaller chicks, got beat up by Morinth, pouted for several days and now he's just one of the dudes! I bet if I had Trickster still there would have been a fight, he was crowing already.

The legbar I had to butcher right away was just beating everyone up and was pecked bloody in the face.

I've read it a few times and will read it again and again!

So.... There'll be no more picking my girls up and kissing them and smelling them... Siiiigh.

But they're so soft and they smell like a brand new stuffed animal! 🤣

Ash had to give her opinion on it (look at how beat up she is! We ALL need extra wormies because of it!)

Good news! I emailed him and he got back to me saying that roosters are allowed in rural residential zones!

Now to finish up the run, build or buy a larger coop, and then hopefully add a rooster to the flock, maybe next year! Well... Probably a chick that will grow into a rooster.

Does anybody have any recommendations for roosters? Any certain breed(s) that you've found to be the best? Breeds I should stay away from?

Now I'm getting excited 😆
Are you planning to raise baby chicks and/or eat fertilized chicken eggs (yuck IMO) cuz that's what will happen if you get a roo. Think, plan ahead, if that's really something you want to deal with. Also, just cuz a roo is allowed doesn't mean neighbors can't complain & the town cite your roo as a noise nuisance. It happened to a neighbor around us.

Otherwise get a roo breed of your desire. They're all gorgeous. Perhaps get a roo that matches the breed of one of your favorite hens. But really ~ zone R-R or not neighbors can still legally complain ~ grandfathered or not.

Finding a private breeder that has lines back to the Buckeye creator Nettie Metcalf's lines would be ideal. To get unspoiled heritage breeds one has to find private breeders. I do love small or no-comb chicken breeds (shoot! I love all chickens!).
I agree. The problem there is getting a Marek's vaccination. I'm on old farmland, likely Marek's here. The Buckeyes I've had (only these four) have had great personalities & kpersonable with humans, real smarts, and they actually seemed to overall do better in the heat this year than the Buff Orpingtons - the BO's have more and fluffier fluff? Though maybe the Buckeyes are / were "old & cold", being three years older? I can see with both breeds that the larger hens had a tougher time in the heat.

Ash helping her.
Versace is VERY well liked by the big hens. As soon as he's ready he has many girlfriends.
Which means Ric Flair is free to have all the younger pullets if he desires. Hormones haven't kicked in for them yet so fingers crossed they get along.
He was well raised to respect hens. 😉

I wouldn't have a problem eating fertilized eggs, as long as I take them early enough that they don't develop. I've eaten a couple before, when visiting my maternal grandparents who had hens and a roo :)

As for noise complaints... That's something to definitely think more about. The neighbors on either side of us won't mind, we're friends with one and the other has had chickens before. If I feel it's necessary I'll ask around to make sure everyone directly around us will be okay with it
