Raked up two totes of pine straw. I wanted to fill four totes but I was not feeling good so I had to stop. 20241017_154436.jpg
had to get a different brand of chicken feed and we're trying this. 19% protein...

I meant to go out to take pine straw today but was also feeling under the weather. Planning to get up early and get some tomorrow.
Love pine straw. So lovely and soft!

Walked down to get the mail with Sherlock. He was poking around in the grass across the road. A car turned down the road. Sit, stay...he sat where he was and stayed until released after the car went by.

Pics from the walk @Ponypoor for you.

Too funny seeing them mob you.

Wow snow is on the way! But not this weekend, going to be warm low 20s ♥️

Flopsy update

Here is the video of her mobility

I have been trying to figure out a way to splint or stabilize her hip. But I really don’t know how to do that and keep her mobility. Such an awkward location to splint.

Maybe I will put her in a sling like RC did with Bernie when she was a chicklet.

Layena is a good feed, we don’t get the high protien stuff here but we do get Layena Feather Fixer.

We call that pine needles and this place is knee deep in the stuff 🥰 I have a whole row of Red Pines and the big Pine tree they love hanging out under now, is a White pine and lots of needles under it. They have such a great time digging through those pine needles 😊

How do you know it is her hip and not her knee? Interesting you note a sound when she moves it, maybe it's a dislocation and not a break. Wouldn't a break make it very painful to move at all, whereas she is avoiding putting her weight on it but moves it sort of freely otherwise. I can see trying a sling / baby walker so she doesn't have to put weight on it and see how she does with that. Or, possibly do nothing. When she sits, does she sit on that leg, or roll to the other side and take pressure off and straighten the leg? Meaning, how does she do when she tries to fold it up?

She sits normally and seems to have full mobility of that leg.

I can feel the head of her femur moving when I press on it; it will slip back. I really don’t want to try forcing it around too much. Without an X-ray I don’t know if it’s fractured or not. The call I placed to a Vet today was very dismaying, they quoted my over $800 to do an assessment and X-rays. No way I can afford that. 😢

So my plan is to give her 6 weeks to see if she heals to the point where she can walk around and roost. If not then I will have no choice but to cull her.

Anyways I gave her more calcium and Tylenol. She is good enough in her crate so she can stay there, her being out for an hr or so in the evening will help keep her from getting depressed and give her some exercise.

Also she has laid 2 soft eggs since she did this Monday. I have noted that I had a soft egg layer the past month, and it was blue eggs so she is the one who was laying the soft eggs. I am hoping she stops laying and takes a break now that she has an injury. My luck she will start moulting too 😣
