That really is scary.Cooper's Hawks will go to the ground to kill prey. They will even walk into a run to hunt. Here is a video of a juvenile Coopers Hawk hunting a song bird in a trumpet vine. I have lost a pullet to a Cooper's Hawk that had to come down through the magnolia tree to reach it.
You can find the video in this post.

Made me think of this, that I just saw yesterday. (I'm pasting a blurry screenshot for those of you who can't access the video.)I have been trying to figure out a way to splint or stabilize her hip. But I really don’t know how to do that and keep her mobility. Such an awkward location to splint.
Maybe I will put her in a sling like RC did with Bernie when she was a chicklet.

They keep me up at night sometimes. It's important that Aster learn about them from the other ladies. The ladies are pretty smart about watching and staying under cover. I need that skill passed on.That really is scary.
We need more group shots of your ladies. All the colors...... they are so beautiful as a group.I have a dead tree very close to the house. It is maybe 90-100’ tall. So definitely a danger.
I have a tree service here today taking it down. It is always amazing watching these guys. One of them is up there standing on a (dead) branch, maybe 75’ up and casually wielding a chain saw to remove branches.
Lots of loud machine noise from the chain saw and the wood chipper. Always amazes me that the chickens aren’t afraid of machine noise.

More to the point, if you have some on hand, you could try a chondroitin /glucosamin supplement. The dosage for bird was posted I think a while back on shad's thread, I could probably find it back. And lot of protein and calcium !
Hoping for a good outcome. She is a funny endearing hen.
Friday butts, after two days of heavy rain and a red flood alert which thankfully was a bit overestimated.
Laure, my hen that went on a hard molt from being implanted, is almost fully feathered now and doing great.
