I think they'd get lost in silkie fuzz but no, never, and we have gobs here living next to a forest. The chickens keep them under control pretty well as if you go anywhere the chickens don't, you'll get covered.
I have a mare who is just so bad with getting ticks! It’s difficult to find them with her winter hair in place.

Well looks like she found her way back up onto the roosting ledge, she is next to Henny.

Guess she just wanted a snack!

Ok everyone have a lovely evening.

I also gave her some Tylenol, I am sure it’s making her feel miserable. She is eating and scratching around when I look on the camera so I am not too worried about her. But if she does have something like Coryza I want to nip it in the bud, she has no discharge from nose or eyes. But if that were to start then she could really infect the others. I am keeping Mr P and his ladies apart from the others but if it is Coryza then likely they have all been exposed.

Maybe it’s a simple sinus infection maybe something more. Either way I don’t want her suffering any further.

I am also checking everyone’s face at night now to see if anyone else has any swelling or discharge. If they show signs they will immediately be put on the Sulphatrim also.

It’s annoying because I wanted to worm everyone again. But I don’t want to if she is on the antibiotics.
Wait until the antibiotics are done and then worm. It will be ok.

It’s a big beautiful moon out there tonight, and cold! The sky is clear and the stars are brilliant. Likely have a good hard frost tonight. Which is good, the ticks have been horrible for poor Truly. She just swells right up where they bite into her; poor old girl is just one big itch!

I’ll have to give her some prednisone tomorrow as I am sure the shot I have her last week will be wearing off. I have never seen the ticks so bad! I have checked the chickens over some, but haven’t seen any ticks on them, not sure if they would just pluck the tick off or what?

Has anyone ever seen a tick on a chook?
It's a beaver moon tonight.

Beautiful! Very nice!

30 yrs ago DH & I bought an acre of mountain wilderness to build a cabin & have some livestock for our retirement but by the time we got to retirement our health would not permit us to live such a distance from good medical facilities only located in urban areas. But we don't mind since our current suburb cottage is located at the foot of the mountains & ordinance allows us 5 hens/no roos in our yard which is just the right amount for us :oldoldsters to handle.

Up with the usual legs issue… checked my cameras and looks like Flopsy has gone walk-about for a snack. She can stay down there if she can’t get back up on the roosting ledge. I am not getting dressed and trudging to the barn!

It’s too chilly to be outside going to the barn.
Good. Let her figure it out. This is progress for you.
