Double Laced Barnevelders are gorgeous & the double lacing is breathtaking. But we never got any large breed birds like Java, Barnevelders, Bielefielders, Jersey Giants or Brahmas, etc. They are gentle giants but not mixed w/Silkies ~ the weight difference between bantams & giants is too drastic for our small backyard flock.

Just checked out Hoovers and they seem to have made big changes and acquired Privette Rarw Breeds - here is a list of rare breeds on the site

I'm wondering if that is the same Privett Hatchery that's located in New Mexico. Privett Hatchery is where our Dominiques came from.

Partridge (or penciled) markings (partridge on a reddish base color, penciled on a silver base color) are edged in the base color.

View attachment 3992558The black also rings around the feather, but the edge is the base color. Now, if the edge were the black, this would be double laced due to the multiple rings.

My hens Annette and Melissa both have feathers that intertwine black and white but I can't really see any pattern to them.
Would that just be called leakage ?

Annette is molting now, I'll take a closer look at the feathers left in the coop tomorrow morning.

She certainly was rare, one of a kind ! The most parisian polish.
Is Mrs By Bob feeling any better ?

You know, in Europe it's not possible to have access to so many breeds in just one place.
Hatcheries don't exist for backyard keepers. You must buy eggs or chickens from a breeder, and most breeder only keep four or five breeds.
Good breeders usually specialize in one or two breeds only...
Chicks are not shipped, in France at least, which I personally think is a very good thing.
I don't mind having less choice. I'm all for backyard mutts . But unfortunately this also means many french breeds have become extinct or are so rare that the bloodlines become very poor.

Not sure. The only porcelain I'm aware of is a bantam. The Isabellas as far as I know are all standard sized breeds.

Mélisse looks like most of her color is the feather shaft and possibly the immediate area along the shafts? With the light color around her ear lobes, I think (tentatively) that it is leakage....speculating that maybe 1 parent all black and 1 laced?

Annette looks more like transverse penciled (like Cheetah which is hard to see on a roo) except on silver or lemon (is she pale yellow or white?) Still looks mixed but not sure with what.

My username was picked out in a pinch. I simply though "Oh, I'm not Abitail" and problem solved. Made up a backstory later on and boom. No problems.
