Poppet is done and she is off the nest. Talk about a panic attack when I go out a few minutes ago to look at her and see no trace of her. I also was finally able to see the spot she was sitting and saw the broken shell from the hatched chick. Nothing else. I then go on a mission to find Poppet and where is she? Why none other then the corner of Russ's stall where else would a mother take her just hatched chicks. I tied Russ up and went in to see just what and how many she had under her. 1, she has 1 perfect little black chick. Tiny little thing too. I scooped the chick and Poppet up to bring in for a second and show mom. She figured it out when she fed last night and heard chick peeping. She is not upset because last week she was looking in and under the hay for the neighbors kitten that got loose and did not spot Poppet. Called her Momma Hen 2.0. I now have them both locked up in the coop. Little one needs to grow a bit before they get free roam of the back yard.

1 chick also now has me changing my mind on a previous statement. If she successfully raises it, and it is a pullet, it has to stay. I have also already named it. My little Thanksgiving surprise is now called "Turkey Lurkey or Turkey." It fits, with Squirrel, Goose, Bunny. I was going to eventually have to have a Turkey and there is no more perfect time use the name.

I will go back out in about 20 minutes to get a couple pictures. Both it and I need time to warm up.
How wonderful! :love:love:love:love

I have faith in Poppet. I just worry the first week when any hen hatches or I hatch them myself. Losses happen even under the best of circumstances. From the outside Turkey looks perfect, and is eating drinking and pooping. Still there is a chance I could come out this first week and find her passed for no visible reason. I wish she had 2 or 3, more work on us both but a better chance overall for success for Poppet. Nothing I can do about it. As I said when she went broody in a place I could not reach, what will happen will happen. I just hate to see a Momma put in the work to only hatch 1 and then loose it soon after.

Poppet also has not been bad being a silkie. She is around 1 1/2 years old and this is her 2nd time being broody. The first was around a year old and she was terrible to break. 5 weeks of sitting on nothing.
