Thank you for asking, all is good, though with winter upon me I am sure the whining and weather taxes will be flowing!

Don’t let the lack of snow fool you, it was darn cold and windy all day, didn’t get above freezing at all

They sure didn’t stay out long. Just a quick dirt bath and back inside.

Meanwhile an hr north at my dear sister’s new place…. Yep BIL’s car under that….

And no BBQ-ing tonight on the back deck….

Hope they are enjoying retiring up there, won’t catch me moving up there!

This is classic ‘lake effect snow’ it can dump 3’ easy if the wind lines up correctly over the lakes.

That’s why I call it 2’ of partly cloudy - hard to predict if you get the snow or not.

Meanwhile here it was relatively nice!

I shouldn’t gloat, my turn is likely next when the wind switches to the NW rather than westerly flow.

Lake effect 101 lesson

Recipe
Open warm (relatively) water
Wind over 12km/hr
Temperature less than -4C

As the cold air moves over the open expanse of the lakes it picks up moisture. The greater the run (expanse) of open water the wind goes over the more moisture it picks up.

When the wind hits the colder land it drops the moister as snow.

This image shows the magnitude of this squall line, stretching all across Lake Superior, then picking up again across Lake Heron and Georgian Bay. That a huge fetch and a lot of moisture.

Red arrows are the squalls

Circle sisters (enjoy kiddo)

X is me out of the snow (yay!)

All I need is for that wind to become NW and run the whole fetch of Georgian Bay and I wi get my own 2’ of partly cloudy

Yep it’s called the snow machine.

Places like Buffalo get clobbered all the time with lake effect snow.

Weather whining tax

Fed the horses and checked the chooks. Counted the hens in the Hen House as I hadn’t done it earlier, there was one missing and I could not find her.

Finally I did an individual count, when I got to the part about 3 Roos….. duh! Bert - he was the missing head count.

The butt star is a pattern my husband found and thought was hilarious, so I made it for the tree. We don't like to impale the angels here, I prefer a star on top!
