I didn't know you had a beardie! The poor thing doesn't look so good...

From the angle it's hard to tell but he doesn't look underweight... He also doesn't look like he has MBD. But his eyes are sunken in, his beard is black... Yeah, he's clearly uncomfortable

Could he have a blockage? Vitamin deficiency? Worms? Keep me updated (if you want to)! I had a beardie for a short time, had to give her up, but I did a lot of research into beardies during that time. A lot of it has slipped my mind but I'd be happy to reeducate myself so we can maybe figure out what's going on with your little guy.

I know their lifespan is 10-15 years on average. He could just be old and reaching the end of his lifespan. Or there's something going on with him. Fingers crossed he recovers. You've dealt with too much loss

I keep thinking... Aliss looks more like an English BCM (or clean-legged French) than a BSL. But as far as I know, Family Farm and Home doesn't supply English BCM. I think they get their chicks from Cackle..? @SimpleJenn do you know?

Looking at pictures of BCM and BSL, Esme looks more like the latter. But Aliss is much darker overall, fluffier, and the brown/red/copper color is only on her neck/chest and head. Her face and earlobes also have more black (still yellow, but with dark "smudges" that are spreading as she gets older), black spots on the tips of her comb, and her legs are mostly black. Of course she could just be a much darker BSL than what I've seen. Maybe different parents were used...? Oh! And Aliss has green eyes, not brown like the rest of my girls!

I've seen pics of really dark BSL like Aliss, but they all have yellow legs and yellow/red faces.

It doesn't really matter, I'm just curious!

Another thing about Aliss that probably has nothing to do with breed but I can't not share because it's funny: she doesn't really cluck... She just roars. Must be her new "beer beeeer beer!"

...Okay so I've done more looking. Now I'm seeing pics of BSL who look just like Aliss. The picture of the BSL hen on Hoover's website looks more like Esme, but the pictures on Murray McMurray's and Cackle's sites look more like Aliss...

I use golf balls too, the ones I find in the horses’ paddocks that my neighbour lobbed over trying to hit the horses and the barn.

What a doorknob! I got enough to give to my BIL he never had to buy golf balls to go golfing and now I use them in the chooks nest boxes

Made sure one day when I was out fixing fencing to mention that to my friend on the phone (so the neighbour could hear), about my BIL reaping the benefits of free golf balls!

Down side is they stopped doing that after they heard me telling that tale!

Some people just can’t hit a golf ball with any accuracy!

Is 10 yrs a good long age for his ‘people’? I am trying to remember how old my cousin’s wee Spike was.

Always found her to be very interesting, she enjoyed hanging out watching people and the cats. When she caught me watching her she watched me. If I looked away she looked at me even more.

I always imagined her as a giant dinosaur in a little ‘persons’ body

As far as illnesses go I got off pretty easy. Fever for 30 hours or so. Slept pretty much all day Tuesday. Woke up yesterday with a normal temp so went to work, didn't get really tired until the last hour. Still feeling a bit run down and sniffly, but overall mostly normal. I only work 3 days a week so off until monday. Next 2 weeks are both 2 day weeks because of holidays, so an easy finish to the year.

We have some sunshine today so hopefully I can get some new chicken pics.
