I need to move them someplace where they can thrive, I am on the extreme border for growing them. Like azalea - I can grow them but they just need some TLC during the winter.

I have a PawPaw tree that is doing well, but I also want to move. I also want to get another one so I can get fruit.

There is also a Cucumber Magnolia that I have in the back paddock. It’s ok where it is, but I need to move two oaks that are getting crowded out by the magnolia.

And of course the regular variety of magnolia with the lovely flowers grows well here, and as long as the frost doesn’t hit it I get lovely flowers.

Being part of the northern most edge of the Carolinian Forest we have trees and plants that grow further south in abundance, but that are at risk up here.

I would love to try growing a Mimosa here, I know @RebeccaBoyd has issues with them and her allergies but I would love to try growing one. I fear though, that it would be too extreme here for one. Wonder if I can get cold hardy varieties…?

The cactus I planted here is actually native to this area and grows well (too well actually!), and my peach trees are doing well. I may get another peach tree in the spring.

I honestly think a Mimosa would do well with you. Care might need to be taken the first year or so but they grow fast. Ours handle the cold really well. We can get some seriously cold and snowy weather as well. 2 years ago single digits with wind chill below 0 for a good 2 weeks. I have saw pictures of your chickens in standing water. A mimosa would thrive there. If you have a creek, plant them along your creek bank. I am horribly allergic to them but once established they do a wonderful job of keeping our backyard from washing away when we get flooded. Honestly I only hate the trees for about 3 weeks out of the year when they are in bloom. They provide a good shade, and they are lovely when they are covered in their flowers. Hummingbirds also love them and swarm the tree's when they are in bloom.

TY ~ tests are all done so the hospital pre-surgery yesterday was mostly ins paperwork & registration about 7 pgs. Then an RN surgery nurse goes over disinfectant body wash instructions. Basically don't eat, don't take vitamins/supplements, no pain-killers like aspirin etc, see the surgeon the day before surgery, RN swabbed the nostrils, I must read 4 pgs of surgery day instructions & commit myself to no-sleep pain for the next 5 days cuz I can't have my pain-reducing natural Magnesium supplements. I was up 6 times last night from excruciating pain so that meant DH was up w/me too. I think the pain will kill me (& DH) before the surgery will

Can you not just take extra strength Tylenol? It’s not an NSAID so no worry about anti-coagulation.

Have you ever tried Tramacet? It might work for you.

Sounds like something good for the earth's dwindling bee population too

We planted lavender rosea succulent in the front yard for bees , butterflies , & hummies. No pollen smell for my allergy & the birds & bees & hummies love the flowers & lizards like the bugs & worms hiding underneath.

Are they non toxic to horses? I have the perfect location for them if they like damp areas. Currently there are poplars in the alleyway between two paddocks but they are old and need to come down.

This is the location and it floods / ponds in the Spring and in heavy rains.

Those trees on the middle are the ones needing to be cut down. Those willows may shade it out though….

Just past that Willow I planted the PawPaw and the cucumber magnolia.

Thos willows are huge! The fence is 5’ high!

Have you ever tried Tramacet? It might work for you.

Wish I could take any pain killer but have been strictly forbidden to take anything on the mile-long hospital list. My stomach cramps badly from ingested pain killers. & Tylenol doesn't work on me anyway. A dentist discovered I'm immune to pain meds ~ Tylenol or prescribed, might as well just feed me candy teehee! So when I found that 500mg Magnesium worked I did a happy dance but that's been restricted too. Only 5 days to go!

Can't wait to hold my Tribbles again!

From what I've read it is the seed pods that are toxic. They are mildly toxic to horses. It stated that large quantities needed to be ingested over a period of time. From my reading unless essentially starving horses tend to leave them alone.

We tie ours up to the mimosa tree while cleaning the stalls and they have never once so much as even offered to nibble the leaves that hang in front of them.

They are so expensive here I don’t buy them. I used to buy star fruit which I like, but again they are super expensive.

These days it’s just the basics here we get, which is why I wish I could grow a mango inside here, I know people do, and keep them trimmed short. Also banana plants come on dwarf varieties - I had a nice dwarf cavendish but my mum killed it off one time when I was working out west. Her ideas on cold and mine, for tropical plants are poles apart.

I don’t get plants anymore, too expensive.

I entertained the idea of a winter greenhouse or else a greenhouse cover for the 2 raised garden beds but our Santa Ana Winds are too unpredictable & would ~ like the Wizard of Oz ~ blow our efforts away into neighboring yards. Our $$$ would be Gone With The Wind!

The Santa Ana's were one reason we got a heavy coop so it wouldn't be destroyed by weather or large nighttime chicken predators.

Those littles are so cute! It seems animals love having company of other living beings around them. I keep chuckling about the horses watching chicken TV!

Pretty Willows...I had no idea they could survive snowy weather. They really get huge. There are a couple houses around here that don't trim them & they are enormous...but oh so pretty!

I've asked them too let me know when there's an open day. I'm also hoping to connect with my family at the same time.
Because my family and i live so far away from each other...I've sent them a link of places they could book and I'm looking to, so we maybe we can spend a couple of nights together away from our homes.

This is just an idea because my family are always busy with non stop little ones. The little ones will enjoy this farm and it's apparently a large place with lots of animals that they can see

I wonder if princess would remember me.

That's a really good get up for chickens.
If I had a little more space outside my kitchen I could have still kept a couple of rescue chickens but it's way to narrow.
