TY ~ tests are all done so the hospital pre-surgery yesterday was mostly ins paperwork & registration about 7 pgs. Then an RN surgery nurse goes over disinfectant body wash instructions. Basically don't eat, don't take vitamins/supplements, no pain-killers like aspirin etc, see the surgeon the day before surgery, RN swabbed the nostrils, I must read 4 pgs of surgery day instructions & commit myself to no-sleep pain for the next 5 days cuz I can't have my pain-reducing natural Magnesium supplements. I was up 6 times last night from excruciating pain so that meant DH was up w/me too. I think the pain will kill me (& DH) before the surgery will :(
This must be such awful pain for you. I'm so sorry 😞 :hugs:hugs:hugs
I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed this will all go well for you. You are such a brave lady. ❤️
Tx ~ Fluffy Butts that won't stop wiggling. These Tribbles were so happy eating they couldn't stand still!

So 😍

Are they non toxic to horses? I have the perfect location for them if they like damp areas. Currently there are poplars in the alleyway between two paddocks but they are old and need to come down.

This is the location and it floods / ponds in the Spring and in heavy rains.

Those trees on the middle are the ones needing to be cut down. Those willows may shade it out though….

Just past that Willow I planted the PawPaw and the cucumber magnolia.

Thos willows are huge! The fence is 5’ high!

I want to move the PawPaw up there closer to the barn in the alleyway space between the paddocks.

In the summer it’s dry there

Tree top tax

The chooks love hanging out near Reenie’s stall, always goodies there as she is a sloppy eater.

They are completely fearless 🤣 they are so tiny and right next to the horses hooves, bless them ❤️

She has white legs, lays brown eggs, flies really well, waited until about 6 months for POL, and is an Enigma.
Oh, white legs! Yes, she’s an enigma for sure. I’m sure there are lots of brown egg layers with white legs. I’ve had two of them myself. But they were fluffy, heavy breeds, not good flyers.

Do we think she is a barnyard mix?

We really have no idea what kind of chicken she is. We are trying to puzzle it out. I really like @rural mouse genetic explanation of how you create a chicken like Aster. She came from a "Lavender Orpington egg" which I purchased for Glynda to hatch.
Oh, right! The lavender Orpington egg! Have you asked the place where you got the eggs what she might be? Do you know all the breeds they carry?

What’s all this nonsense I hear about chickens wearing jeans?👖
I don’t think they should be forced into wearing jeans or any other clothing in that matter! It must be uncomfortable for them to move around in too!
Oh, you’re talking about chicken genetics right? Well it just goes to show you! I can misunderstand too! Signed Rosanne Rosanadanadana! 🤷‍♀️

Wish I could take any pain killer but have been strictly forbidden to take anything on the mile-long hospital list. My stomach cramps badly from ingested pain killers. & Tylenol doesn't work on me anyway. A dentist discovered I'm immune to pain meds ~ Tylenol or prescribed, might as well just feed me candy teehee! So when I found that 500mg Magnesium worked I did a happy dance :bun but that's been restricted too. Only 5 days to go!

Can't wait to hold my Tribbles again!

Epsom salt soak or poultice maybe? Supposedly one of the benefits is the magnesium absorbed through the skin. I haven’t dug into the scientific proof of that but I do hear people say it works for joint pain.

Maybe after surgery...but not before. RN says to stay away from it before surgery. It's been very strict pre-surgery stuff. It's ok. Pain relief to look forward to after surgery. Some supplements or meds can interfere w/ blood thinning, bone healing, etc etc. They know their stuff.

TY for the tip!

Feel free to ignore this rabbit hole, but while @rural mouse has her genetics laser focused on blue and lavender, here is Piglet.

She is an ‘Opal Legbar’. The color is often referred to as ‘Isabel’.
I believe Piglet is a Crested Cream Legbar with a Lavender gene.
Does that sound right? Is Isabel just another name for Lavender?

As you know, I am perfectly happy that she is simply a pretty chicken, but also keen to learn. What fascinates me about Piglet’s feathers is they are all sorts of shades of pale grey. You can somewhat see in this picture (I will try to get a better pic), but she also has markings (barring?) on many feathers but all washed out.
When I go out today I will try and find some of her feathers that show it more clearly.

Isabel is a color combo where lavender affects the red as well as the silver/black tone. The cream legbar has some barring. Lavender got introduced (probably had to do several generations/back crosses to get the double lavender (rather than split to lavender) and all the legbar characteristics. Once there, lavender washed EVERYTHING to really pale, making the Isabel/opal color scheme. Isabel is a specific color scheme involving both black and red (Isabella leghorns: black breasted red washed down to the soft dreamy grey breast (on roos) with pale blonde head/hackles/saddle).

So you are correct in Piglet has lavender (2 copies). Isabel is a "subsidiary" of lavender.

Your "pretty chicken" genetics understanding is expanding!
