Pretty birds. Their size & description sound like a small/medium game bird in temperament yet have the reputation of a good layer. Sad they seem so rare & delicate (Mareck's susceptible). So many chicken breeds yet not enough interest to save the rare ones.

We tried to help the rare Greenfire Breda Fowl imports but they were too rare & not enough gene pool diversity & there are none available here any more .

Surely you remember that any number multiplied by zero is still zero.

Currently I have five chickens. Each chicken lays zero eggs.
5x0=0

If I had 12 chickens it would be 12x0=0

Still no eggs for me!

Are they too big to deal with my high up roosts? There are steps and logs to jump on but most of my birds fly up and down and I would t want to have birds that were too heavy and would hurt themselves.
I am seriously thinking I would like some in my flock.

Well, that is a very easy fix!!!

Just add another, lower, roost. Might be good for when you get older ladies, too, that have arthritis and don't like jumping (landing, really) from a height - or have to really 'jump' up onto something.

You know, us old folks - the body doesn't work as well and we don't like over taxing it.

Ahh, but that is your problem. If you added a pair or trio of youngsters each spring (say, late march). THEY WOULD BE LAYING late fall and through the winter when everyone else is molting/taking a break. See, I have done the research on that...and have empirical proof of this fact!

(Actually, those are the ONLY ones laying at my place now. 77 birds, 10-15 eggs a day...all from my youngsters.)

So: solution to your problem:
Add 2-3 pullets each spring and each winter you will have eggs! simple & easy fix!
