Which breeder do you use for silkies if I may ask? The live ones being flown here the first chance the weather gives a break here is from indigoegg.us

I have hatched some gorgeous buffs and whites from her, but I only got 8 out of two dozen.

Good reviews, lovely birds, and she's very nice!
She will have hens choice eggs on Monday ;) I had to pass on them since hubby got me the ones he did.

Penelope

Last night I was up and out to the barn at midnight checking on her she was beak breathing. I assessed her as having ascitis.

Tonight I drained approx 200ml of straw coloured serous fluid from her abdomen (oooo I still remember all the terminology - once a Nurse always a Nurse ha!). She was a good girl and just stood there while I siphoned off all that excess fluid.

Then I gave her some Tylenol and put her back in the hen house on a thick bed of shavings as she was still draining from the area I inserted the needle. It will likley drain overnight and once the pressure is relieved the needle puncture will heal over.

Getting old is hard work!

The fluid was clear so I am not worried about any infection, not like Sophia who’s draining a were a horrible green colour. She had a 2 week dose of amoxicillin for that and she has been doing well since then.

You are amazing! You do that like it's no big thing.

Poor Penelope. Thanks for giving her some relief.

WTH?!

How do dolphins get this?!

Oh come on now, they need to get vax out there for those factory farms, what are they waiting for? The longer they wait the more risk there is of an actual true mutation that could affect humans. Sheesh!

It were me, I would be all over that and nip it in the arse, get all poultry vax’ed and protected.

This is what they have done in the past with cattle and Brucellosis. Why are they so slow now? Giddy-up govt!
They are slow because chickens don't matter. They are "less than". 😠

Containment has failed spectacularly but they refuse to budge. The Chinese are vaccinating their poultry.

Brave Sydney ♥️
Lady Featherington came out at one point as well but I did not have my camera. Aster was all over the yard today. To Hattie house, the apple trees, and the grape vines. She spent a lot of time under the grape vines.

She was very busy and alone.

@BY Bob if it isn't too difficult personally, could you post some pictures of Sylvie and Legertha, Betty, & Phyllis? I know I need more chickens like I need a hole in my head - especially at this point with everything going on - but I do want to order more chickens this spring - and polish are soooooo alluring.

Given I don't want high product breeds, and am good with broodies - but it is just too cold here, especially with my set-up, for silkies.....they might be a good option
Here you go. There will be several posts.

Latest on H5N1 (bird flu)

The nation's second largest egg producer is reporting bird flu in their Indiana facility. There are 2.8 million chickens located there. This will put a serious dent in the egg supply. The Midwest will be most effected.

There are also now cases of dolphins contracting H5N1.
The horror just keeps escalating!
