Just a little warning to the blue bowling ball you see. Do not cross the creek this morning, I am not wading in it today. The creek is only going to get higher, it is supposed to rain all day long, heavy at times. The last picture is a good reference point. The base of the rock you see, as long as water does not get level with it we are good no flooding. It gets level or above it, we are in trouble. We were under a flash flood watch the other night, water came very close to the base of it.
Wow. It really does swell. I remember seeing g pictures of it before when it was just a trickle!

I just got wonderful news, this evening I will have a sensor. My co-worker's daughter is also a type 1 and uses the dexcom system. She just got upgraded 2 months ago to the G7 and has 2 leftover G6 sensors. She is sending them home with mom this evening for me. I cannot begin to describe how much of a blessing this is. This will also allow me to have 2 back-up sensors a month incase of something like another failed sensor happening again.
That is fantastic. Great news!

I hope that if Esme goes broody she turns out to be a good setter. That way when we're ready for more chicks I have a mama for them. Of course just because she's a good setter doesn't mean she's a good mama. But we'll see.
What are your plans for her this time around if she is infact going broody? I'm being 100% honest with you, if you do not plan on letting her hatch or even getting her chicks it is best to try to break her. You can learn a lot about how determined she is from simply trying to break a broody hen. Those stubborn difficult ones who take the longest to break. Very good chance if given the opportunity the next go around will be committed the next go around if given eggs to hatch.

Fostering chicks onto a momma hen is a whole different ball game. Before you attempt that make sure you are fully set up inside and ready to brood them yourself. Ideally you want them fresh out of the incubator or day olds. If you are sourcing your chicks from a farm store you want to time it up to get chicks the day they arrive so they are around 3 days old. 4 to 5 days or older I would not try it if I am being honest.

Your momma in general needs to be have setting for 2 to 3 weeks, closer to 3 or longer if you have to give her chicks to break her. It is best to do this at night if you can. Tuck the chicks under her from behind. If she is setting on dud eggs or fake eggs remove them once you give her the chicks. Have a small shallow dish of chick starter and a shallow dish of water placed in front of her. Turn off your light and sit close and listen. You want to hear her talking to them. Occasionally turn on your light to make sure they stay under her. You will know if she is going to reject them, she will attempt to peck them hard and try to keep them out from under her. Gentle pecking or nudging is ok if they pop out from under her in the front. That is how she will guide them back under her. If all is going well for the first couple hours that evening all you can do is go in and go to bed. Be ready to be out first thing at daylight. Normally if she takes to them that evening by morning it has clicked in her head that these are hers.

If she goes broody this time, I might try to break her... I don't know for sure. She's still so young. We're definitely not introducing any new chicks yet, we don't have the space.

We don't have a wire dog crate, or anything to use as a broody jail, really. Though we might be able to find one cheap enough. So I'll keep an eye on sales around here.

IF she goes broody and I don't have the means to break her myself, is there anything I can do to help her stay healthy? I've read scrambled eggs are great to feed broodies. I've been reading a couple articles to prepare myself.

:wee :celebrate

Please give her a huge huge from me for being so wonderful.

AND a huge hug from me to you also ♥️

It was at the back of my mind this morning, wondering about. Now if we can keep you from getting sick from the germ factories all will be well in n the universe.

Me, I would be sleeping in the barn hahahaha! With the spiders and mice 😁

I'm not going to lie, the thought of sleeping outside with the horses has crossed my mind.

It is a moot point though and already too late. I've been exposed already. The day before yesterday I camped out on Rosie's bed for a few hours and watched a movie with her. Well, she watched the movie, I napped.

I do have a mask now that I am wearing when interacting with them and have broke out the gloves we had left over from taking care of grandma. I also have my old friend....Clorox. Dishes washed in it and everything is being wiped down with Clorox water.

Clorox - yep good choice 👍

I feel a bit guilty having my mum do all my shopping so I am not exposed to the sniffling coughing masses in the grocery store - but in the end I have to say it frees up time for me to sit with the chooks 😊
