Easier to see in the black and white.
This egg is white with a label of "R" and is in the 12 egg incubator.
I plan on waiting until day 7 to candle every one.

Printed and laminated a chart (technically 2 because one didn't seal) to keep track easily using a dry erase marker. Kiddo is so smart, she read most of the words all by herself!

And, of course, the time she visited Santa

Wow! Quite a reputation she has ~ president, spy, gangster, comedienne, pirate, playboy bunny, cartoon character, tippler, & Santa's elf! Not a bad resumé!

I hope that if Esme goes broody she turns out to be a good setter. That way when we're ready for more chicks I have a mama for them. Of course just because she's a good setter doesn't mean she's a good mama. But we'll see.
You want more chicks? You want to put fertile eggs under a broody? You have room for chicks w/ possibility of cockerels? We are inquiring minds here :D

I have never used a crate, I just toss mine out of the coop every chance i can, but I don't mind mine taking the break. If you know everyone is done laying for the day you can block off the nest boxes or close the coop.
That's what we do ~ close the coop. We have to know in advance if everyone has layed before we lock it up. Works well for breaking broodies if you have the patience to monitor often.

I also should add I got it for my portable induction cooktop I bring to camp with me. I needed pots and pans that have a ferrous metal base for the induction to work.

My next stove will be an induction cooktop.

This little fart and Mr P have been getting into it lately

Why an induction?
