A Pony Sunday pup...

When my friend passed in January her DH & DS adoped a 10-yr-old pup from a neighbor who unwillingly had inherited a dog when their elderly relative also passed.

Our friend's DS lovingly w/ the new girl "Princess" ~ she's a little button of a pup & I KNOW she has a swell new home as these people lost their 13-yr-old miniature poodle recently.

Coop clean out has started.

7 (seven) wheelbarrow loads out. Wiped out. Have at least 3 (probably closer to 6) more to go...later this week if the weather permits.

PITA settled into a nest box while I worked the excavation. So did Shan and Indigo. All 3 yelled at me before settling...and ran in and out several times. Belladonna and Cardhu yelled at me and ran in and out repeatedly too, but wouldn't settle. Tuff circled round the coop, hovered and poked his head in repeatedly and surprisingly did NOT yell back when the ladies were screaming. Cheetah called back...lots, but refused to poke his beak inside.

This one has a white dot, so should bar up as they grow.
One idea that worked well for me is get a cardboard tray (like ones that come with cat food cans) and cut slits where the top end of the legs of your brooder plate are. Push the tray down on top of the brooder plate and put some bedding in it.
That will expand the space of the sleeping shelf and also keep the poop off your brooder plate.
My chicks have always found that their absolutely favorite spot and when I am done I just pull up the cardboard tray and the heating plate is nice and clean underneath.
Here is a picture of what I mean. I forgot I ended up doing a tray underneath as well. I can’t remember why!
