When our Silkie Mini was kept inhouse for her many health issues she wore a chicken diaper. But if she had a cecal poop it smeared in the diaper onto her butt fluff. We baby shampoo'd only the butt feathers in the bathroom sink & blow-dried on low warm. Chickens seem to like blow-drying when they're wet. We don't blow-dry super cold rain-drenched Silkies, just paper towel dry them.

We never trimmed butt feathers unless there was a super hard crusty poop on a feather then we cut the poop off. We never cut close to skin.

I use scissors, but then my gang is used to being handled and I am used to handling them.

For the wee silkies topknots I trim with scissors but pluck the feathers near their eyes with my fingers. The Baby dumplings sure didn’t appreciate my doing that this past weekend. But I am sure they like seeing a bit better. Still need to trim their topknots.

But I really want to get photos of them while they are looking all cute and fuzzy.

Poor love. He definitely has something going on. I do think that was a sneeze and he does seem to be putting a bit more effort into breathing.
Hopefully he will get better on his own.
I remember Maggie had a cough and cold and it resolved itself after a few days, and Tassels was wheezing a week or so ago but that also resolved.
Hoping for the best for Clyde and you.

Well he has been roaming the barn most of the day, I wasn’t able to hear his breathing on the cameras due to the noisy clucks, soon I’ll be home and be able to get a look at him.

More antibiotics and some aspirin for what ails him.

A short list of things about poop
If you don’t know how to tell urine in chicken poop
If you can’t tell what your chickens have eaten by their poop
If it’s really smelly and doesn’t look normal, is probably cecal poop
If your chicken is sick, you can sometimes tell by the poop
If you haven’t experienced any of these things yet, then you don’t know poop !!

I'm not sure what you can do for him. I would post this in the emergencies thread. However, I will say that when I have heard someone sneeze, usually during the rainy season, I add a few drops of VetRX to their drinking water and that seems to clear it up. It doesn't hurt the other chickens at all. But, you can also dab a drop or two under his wings and he'll get it when he preens.
