The blue jays and crows here like to swoop the chooks and tease them - they have a sense of humour

Swooping in our yard is a bit tough for hawks or crows cuz we designed it w/patio roofs, popup canopies, & trees so there's not much aerial space for them to do aerial acrobatics.

It's the little House Sparrows that bother me the most ~ they are nasty little pests that have driven off the Brewers Blackbirds, House Finches, Yellow Finches, Mourning Doves, etc. The only birds that aren't intimidated by the sparrows are the lone Mocking Bird & a lone Black Phoebe who waits to dive for a blueberry or pomegranate seed DH tosses out for our hens.

What are the temps where you live? How close did he let you get to him?
Does he hang out with the others? or is he staying by himself?

The ones that had canker over here looked like that at the start of it. I put copper sulfate in the water for 5 days and haven't seen a sick bird here since then.
Hope he is okay !

It slides off - though normally it will slide off after every snowfall - but this year it built up so much it didn’t have time to slide off except in one big slab!

Elephants destined to live in my backyard - for the winter at least - summer I may have to get out the horse clippers and give them a haircut!

I am not home at the moment - I am in the UK. Temperatures in the 40s but warmer today. He is totally fine. He ate a lot of the prunus blossoms and then went for a snooze in the sun. Then he flew off.
