I told her when we decide who we're keeping from the current chicks we'll discuss hatching some Polish. We at least need to rebuild the run so we can have them all out in the main complex...I would be okay brooding polish in the little "chicken church" coop
Marvelous chickens. They are just marvelous. I highly recommend them.

I do not trust dogs, nor will I ever.

We had one incident where someone brought a dog to a dinner party Mrs BY Bob was throwing poolside. They left their dog off the leash. In a flash Elphie was running through my legs and into the house and Daisy, the greatest hen ever, was cornered under the deck. I had to get the hose and soak the dog to get it to leave Daisy alone. The party was ruined and my chickens were beyond stressed.

Nope. No dogs running free with my chickens out of the complex. Tragedy can happen too quickly.

She scared the crap out of the cats when she came running in. 🤣
That had to be a terrifying experience!!! I'm so glad all your chickens made it through!

Elphie is so pretty and svelt. :love

For mugs Monday, I present to you the possible ring leader of this small group of chicks. She makes sure she stays between me and the other chicks if she can, and has even charged my hand. Supposedly they are all female, but she has me wondering. 😁

They are all taking a nap now. Tomorrow they will go out into the coop brooder, so it will be harder to get photos. I think I will wait until they come out from under the sweeter heater and get a little adventurous before I name them. I have not been able to see distinctive personalities in this first week. Well, except for the aforementioned ring leader. I might just call her bossy. They do all look different. Bossy has more white on her wing, but that will go away with time. The smallest one is nearly all black. And the other one is somewhere between the two in coloring. They are all cute as ever and I will miss having them in here. But I think they will do better if I get them out where there is more space to run and they can see the other chickens. I want them all to be used to each other long before integration.

This is so much easier when a hen does it. Someone on BYC keeps one breed especially for their propensity to raise young, even when they aren't their own. She incubates them and pretty early on puts them in their coop. I'll have to ask again which breed that is, but I think it is silkies. Fascinating idea anyway.

Since some of your coop/run collapsed from snow this winter will it repair enough to get thru next winter? I have been overwhelmed at how many BYCers contend snowstorms!

Oh yeah, we'll get it fixed up. I just didn't take the tarp off/beat off the snow over winter and that caused the collapse.

They are already quite the pair! 🥰

She has been good with the cats and chickens from day 1. She's just great with animals.

Awww what a lovely picture of her and Gucci - that is one for the photo album! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰

And in the first photo - it looks like she is being a cat whisperer - or is the cat being a kid whisperer??????
