That's great! Nice that you have people who want to buy eggs, but I suppose a lot do these days. I don't get enough to share, but when I do I have someone I give them to.
In the winter it’s hard to sell eggs unless it’s my regular clients, people just don’t want to go out and around in the winter. Now that the nice weather is here people are eager to get out, and what better way than to go get eggs I guess.

A lady just called an hr ago she is just down the road she dropped in and bought my last 4 dozen in the fridge.

My cousin sells them to her neighbours for me, they love the colours apparently ♥️

Yes but I need to know how much of the powder is equal to 50mg.

Any other med would say something like ‘1/2 tsp = 10g’

So then I would know that if I needed 20g I would use 1 tsp.

But for the life of me I cannot find this data anywhere.

And I am also getting conflicting info on egg withdrawl- one place states no egg withdrawl another 9 days and 14 days and the bottle I have states “do not use in laying hens”.

I think that is likely a Canadian Food Inspection agency thing though. If it hasn’t been tested and approved here then they won’t approve it for use. It’s very eggspensive to test all these meds and our egg industry isn’t large enough to go to all the trouble - a large industry like that in the UK, Australia or Europe would spend the money for testing (and is usually where I take my queue from). Why they just don’t use data from there I don’t know - I think it has to do with specific pathogens in different regions.

Anywhooooo so here I sit going down the Tylosin rabbit hole! Clyde won’t get dosed tonight I guess.
Well, it's not a teaspoon, probably 1/8 or less. And the density of the granules would create different amounts being 50 grams. All I can think of is a kitchen scale, but mine doesn't measure milligrams. What a dilemma! When I tried a search on the internet of how to convert 50 milligrams to teaspoons, this is what it said:

"You don't.

Milligrams are a measure of mass, teaspoons are a measure of volume. The two cannot be converted directly into each other. Perhaps if you knew the density of a specific substance, you could figure out how much a teaspoon of it would contain."

I'm just not sure how to do it without a scale.

And here is another answer on the internet:

How much is 100 mg in teaspoons?

Understand the Problem

The question is asking for a conversion of 100 milligrams (mg) to teaspoons, which requires knowledge of weight-to-volume conversions.

Answer

Reveal Answer

Answer for screen readers

The final answer is 1/50th of a teaspoon

More Information

100 milligrams is around 1/50th of a teaspoon, indicating a very small quantity that is often difficult to measure precisely with standard kitchen utensils.

Tips

Be sure to check for the density of the substance if converting from milligrams to teaspoons, as density can affect the conversion.

Yes mg, g, and kg are weight.

But in this instance the average of the density would be sufficient likely. Any powder meds I know of have a measurement for how much volume a weight would be. For instance Corid has one for it powder med.

I don’t have a kitchen scale but I am thinking I need to order one online now - what a pain!

Is that the oven? Love the picture!

I am the same with the horses. Once they are gone no more. Now that Lulu is gone I am down to only two. Truly will likely need to be dealt with before next winter. I live in fear of her falling in the stall and hurting herself. So much worry with them. I am too old to get hurt with them, the chooks are good next step ‘after horses’ pet to keep.

They are also worrisome but they don’t weight 1,000lbs! Thus, not so dangerous.

So Lulu is gone? Poor baby had issues. I'm so sorry :hugs And yes, the chickens will be easier if there are not ioo many.

If not for DH taking such total responsibility for their supplies, health checks, & feeding, I couldn't handle 6 chickens alone now. At 67 I did most of it including emergency vet visits when DH was at work. But now at almost 81 I need eye lens surgery & can't drive, & I can't even lift the nestbox lid yet after the arm surgery. Aging is a nasty reality so I'm glad we planned ahead & not gone too chicken crazy this past year. 6 are more than enough for us two.

What I also missed this past year is my gardening ~ 2011

I am so glad you finally had your surgery - how is your physio going?

Yes Lulu is gone, she had very bad laminitis.

The chooks are easy for sure, and I have made sure the roosting ledges are at an easy height for me and them. I don’t have to bend down to clean them, and it’s low enough for the chooks.

The heaviest thing I lift are the feed bags. I try to get a few weeks worth of feed in so I only have to lift stuff once. The layer feed is in 25kg bags - the other brand I was getting were in 20kg bags - that extra 5 kg (11lbs) makes a big difference!

Tomorrow I need to get a big load of feed in, I need to do this for sure tomorrow before the rain starts and the ground gets soft at the barn. I don’t want to create ruts in the ground driving back there.

This time of year is also work, but not as much as when it’s snowing.

The animals have to have their feed so I make sure to plan around the weather.

Tylan soluable 100g

Dose is 50mg/kg

But I have no idea how much 50mg is. I just can’t seem to find this info anywhere.

All they say is the whole lot in 50 gallons of water - a little more than I need really…. 😳

Is 50mg a tsp, half a cup… just what is this 50mg dose in measurement?

Help! @bgmathteach and @BY Bob

My two brainiacs!
I found this. It’s 100g of tylosin in the entire container it came in, it seems?

“It is mixed with water so that the chicken drinks normally and gets the correct dosage for their size and weight. Tylosin dosage orally is around 6-7 mg per pound given 3 times a day. If you can figure that dosage, it would be fine to give orally. Tylosin has 100 grams of drug per bag, or 1 gram/1/4 tsp has roughly 1000 mg if that helps you to calculate the dosage.”

Sorry. I don't know what else to do. Maybe someone else on here knows. Have you searched the BYC threads for the answer? If you buy a scale make sure it measures milligrams. Mine doesn't.

What a lovely garden! I'm missing a lot too, and I'm only 72. But, aging is not for sissies, as they say!! I'm glad your chickens are a manageable bunch for you. They bring so much joy! :hugs

Hmmmm so 1/4 tsp is 1000mg (1g).

I only need 50mg! Hmmmmm this is complicated.

Well I went and ordered a kitchen scale that does mg weight on Amazon, so should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it arrives early.

In the meantime I will think about dosing the whole flock. It’s 500mg/L so I can do 2000mg (2g) easily, and fill up my 4L container. That would be 1/2 a tsp - easy enough to measure out.

I can always syringe that mixture into Clyde to make him get some.

I can always waste any eggs if I don’t feel comfortable finding a definitive answer to the egg withdrawl.
