It's strange how many powder & liquid meds are available. Even my vet has to carefully peruse mfr measurements/instructions before he advises dosages. He doesn't have the time to calculate by 2 lbs of one Silkie's weight!) He tells me per gallon & then I figure it down to 2 cups. What a pain cuz each dose is made fresh daily when in powder form.

I remember the good old days when Dr's & Vet's just gave a shot or handed you a med he had on hand but nowadays we have to go to a pharmacy while we're sick to pickup a prescription or order an animal med online, wait for it, then puzzle the instruction doses which are seldom in teaspoon or cup measurements but instead all this kilo milli micro cr*p! Why bother w/a Dr or Vet when we practically have to do all the work ourselves :idunno?

Today is a very sad day. I went out to the coop and found my beautiful Sunny dead on the coop floor under the roost. I bawled like a baby. She wasn't even 2 years old.

Yesterday she was fine, as far as I could tell. I have no idea what happened. I could not bring myself to do a necropsy. Just couldn't. I have her bagged up in the freezer, and I'll bury her in the garden when the ground thaws. I will not throw her away or let the raccoons have her.

She was my lap chicken. (Pip is too, but less so.) Sunny would let me pet her. I petted her when I took out chickie snack yesterday afternoon.

I cried again when I took out chickie snack today, because she wasn't there.

Fly high and free, my beautiful Sunny Girl!

I did not see this (probably owing to the fact that I just skip ahead to the most recent stuff) until now. I'm sorry that she went so quickly. This feels like a replay of what happened to Lhicken, except that she wasted away instead of dying suddenly. Lhicken was just a little over a year old.

:hugs

She is creating a new breed w/ tufted wings much like tufted ears of Araucanas...:lau

That kind of growing crooked, flopped out is called 'angel wings' when on the wings of ducks.

Treating Angel Wing Deformity: A Sling ...

Angel wing in Pet Ducks

It's often caused by a diet high in calories and carbohydrates, with low levels of essential nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin D, and manganese, particularly in young birds. Feeding bread or other high-carbohydrate foods can contribute to this condition.

I have no idea what causes a feather itself to twist - it is a different issue - but when @Sylvester017 mentioned tufted wings, I thought of this. I haven't had any ducklings like this (I try very hard to be good about their diets), but I HAVE seen this....one of the Geese at the Zoo that was dropped off has this. They have to trim his wing's feathers so it doesn't cause his wing to hang out and drag. So sad!

My nipples are insufficient to support the tribe I have. I perceive that there is a shopping trip to be done.
I will need:
3 five gallon insulated coolers for water.
3 retrofit nipples
1 two hour instruction manual on YouTube for (how to use your nipples) ;)
Why does everyone laugh when I talk about my nipples? They didn’t work for me. They leaked all over and made a mess!

Gosh. That seems unlikely to be the case with Pooh. But I could give some vitamins I guess.
Most of the treats I give are things like cheese or fish scraps as well as cabbage.

I do not have pictures for Pony Sunday but I do have a bit of news.

A black calf was born a few days ago. I haven't uploaded pictures yet, but it's a male (sigh) and doing well. The bad news is that another calf was born but it died or was stillborn. I don't know which because the night was cold, its mama was smaller than usual, and I didn't go to do chores that day because I was busy.

So now there are two calves. Brisket, and that other black calf who doesn't have a name yet. I sure hope the neighbor's cows have heifers soon, otherwise he's going to have a lot of meat.

Tylan soluable 100g

Dose is 50mg/kg

But I have no idea how much 50mg is. I just can’t seem to find this info anywhere.

All they say is the whole lot in 50 gallons of water - a little more than I need really…. 😳

Is 50mg a tsp, half a cup… just what is this 50mg dose in measurement?

Help! @bgmathteach and @BY Bob

My two brainiacs!
I am assuming you already have this figured out by now, but if the whole thing is 100grams, then that is 100000mg. If you need 50 mg, then that is 50/100000 = 0.0005 of the whole package. Do you have a scale that wights in mg? Is the package PURE tylan (no filler).

BTW: you are co-mingling weight and volume. grams/milligrams are weight. teaspoons, cups, etc measure volume
