Once you've had a chance to have a couple Silkies & find out how versatile & hardy they are, it's hard to give them up. No matter how many standard breeds we cycled thru there were always Silkies in our midst.

In the beginning it was a flip coin whether our 1st two backyard pets were going to be Silkies or Pekins (Cochin bantams). Getting 2 free Partridge Silkie chicks settled the choice & it's been Silkies always for us no matter what other standard size breeds we sampled thru the years.

Hubby likes the bird as much as she likes him!

Someone on BYC has barred silkies - let me see if I can find them….
They usually call them Cuckoo Silkies & they are adorable!

Had another order for a chicken potholder. I love how these look.
That is so cute as a table doily/trivet for a hot dish. That's what most of our potholders get used for. That would look so cute for cuckoo birds, red, black, brown, buff birds. Just too too cute & practical.

How do you make one look like a Silkie? Probably Angora yarn? Never mind...too impractical for kitchen use!

You are so talented ❣️

Still $ 10 USDollars here at the store

I sell mine to church friends $7.00
We don't need to buy eggs but DH always checks store prices. He says our local organic free pasture Vital Farms & Happy Eggs brands here are cheaper than the production/imported ones.

Our skelter of Silkie eggs filled to the top so DH made another mushroom/spinach quiche today. Eggs just make everything taste better ~ potato salad, soups, curry stew, deviled eggs, egg salad sandwich, Cobb salad, yum yum yum! Not to mention all the baked cakes & custards that use eggs!

Skelter yesterday & 2 eggs added later afternoon & 2 more this morning so he got in some baking plus made me pancakes, eggs & bacon for breakfast 😋. There are 2 more rows we can add to the skelter but we use the eggs so fast we never attached the extra levels..

I forgot to mention:
I heard a mockingbird yesterday, making all kinds of noise. I yelled at it to shut up! But it didn’t stop (now it’s saying “shut up, shut up!”)
Our Mockingbird makes car alarm noises! I'm surprised he hasn't picked up on chicken egg songs yet! He's been around at least 3 years now!
