That’s what I buy them for. $2.50 to $6.00
There's nothing $2.50 here! 8 yrs ago at the feed store we paid $7 each chick for our standard Dominiques!

If I were to order 3 bantam Dominiques from Cackle Hatchery (feed stores never sell bantam Doms) it would cost $12 each chick which is $36 (a lot in itself) but w/ added penalty for ordering under minimum + S&H it was over $100 for 3 bantams!!! At that price I might as well go w/ a local Silkie breeder where I can pickup in person my DNA-sexed vaccinated Silkie chicks!

At all the recent inflation costs I'm glad we have no plans to expand our flock regardless of my longtime desire for Mark Fields' bantam Dominique line at Cackle. Dominiques are auto-sexing so shipping only bantam females would be guaranteed.

Where do you find chicks that cheap⁉️
I thought maybe that was the price but didn’t want to ask 😆

Peavy Mart they were $9 - which I thought was a great price! Last year when I went to TSC in Niagara the chicks were $5 - which would be around $9 CAD.

Oh darn! Now I am wondering what Freys chicks cost 😆

That Bluebird is a beauty!

The deer must truly be comfortable around your property to snooze in open fields or not spook w/you & Sherman around. I love it when wild animals can lower their blood pressure when they start trusting us.

Hated it...but we trapped another rat yesterday. Those little beasties breed like cockroaches! How is it so many animal species are going extinct yet the crafty rodent species survive ~ rats, mice, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, gophers, etc! I suppose they're necessary as food for the aerial & ground predators :idunno
If the deer are accustomed to being around people they don't get spooked very easily. We have deer laying around our yard all the time. They get up and move if they are by the driveway and we are driving past, otherwise they will just watch us walk by.

Several people around here like to feed them. We don't do that intentionally, and don't think people should because it makes them too easy to hunt. But we do feed them unintentionally, if we don't put a fence around every bush and flower.

In the 1970's we stayed at Yosemite family cabins & this young buck came up to my DH to eat Vanilla Wafers out of his hand. Sorry, old photo.
