I like your new shed idea. It was an idea we considered but we aren't DIY people to include all the necessary chicken modifications needed like vents, windows, pop door, roosts, run, etc. I'm excited to see your finished new shed!

Our 1st coop for 5 yrs was protected from the weather elements rain, wind, sun, by tarps.

Nice little design but when we remodeled the yard I insisted on having a patio roof over the new barn coop to protect from blazing summer sun & protect from any rain leaks. We also like retrieving eggs from the nestbox cuz there's a patio roof over us while we collect eggs in the rain.

I relate to this so much. I am not great at construction nor do I have the time to do anything like restoring the old coop would take but I think between me and my husband we can to the shed kit and the minor mods.

I looked at so many of the prefab coops and they are either ridiculously expensive and STILL need mods anyway or really cheap, tiny, and they are made of such cheap materials that they aren’t safe and will not stand up for long. I see this sentiment reflected all over BYC.

There is a huge need for something that is both affordable and also honest about number of chickens ect. and that is well thought out for the needs of responsible chicken tending. If someone ever cracks that code and brings it to market there is surely a considerable sum to be made.

These resin shed kits seem to be the closest I could come to a reasonable amount of space without spending a small fortune. That said it will require quite a bit of labor, particularly with ensuring it is set on very level ground.

I am fortunate to belong to this group though because without everyone here collectively and feely sharing their knowledge and expertise, I would be winging it.

I will take lots of pictures and share my build as I go. I will leave out all the cursing that I am sure will ensue though 😂

Had a great time at the farm store grand opening today. My dad brought me and kiddo, we got hats and some other freebies, and kid convinced me to get her (toy) rabbits and a hutch. Family Farm and Home also sells bunnies, so if we ever get brave enough, we can get them easily too.

Thirsty Thursday, with Blue keeping an eye out.

I got the spray and dad gave me a bucket of hardwood ash from his woodstove so Marble and Buffy will be getting lice treatment today. Hubby wants me to wait until he gets home since he's worried I'll get spiked when I go to treat them...Marble does have those big ol spurs.

@Ponypoor I found the exact spray you linked me! Dad says we'll have to see if it works to keep ticks off the dogs this summer too.

You're back! We missed you!!!
I currently have 27 haha
Good to have you back with us!
Sadly I won't be here to stay. I'm planning on making another alternate account and popping in a few times a month. I stayed off of here for too long and am willing to take the risk of popping in to say hi once and a while... I miss you guys too though.
I thought I saw a ghost!
Maybe you did...
I’m thinking that, …. Maybe a few more would be better
I completely agree. I've tried telling Dad that; he doesn't agree.

Tell your dad, that having a few (maybe twenty more) would fulfill your needs for responsibility and for your sociological, moral, and spiritual growth in life! (Let us know if he buys that one) :gig
